slowing fan speed question???

just want to know if this setup will work ? trying to slow this (what was a fan) fan speed way down from a 12 v source.
The resistor is 100 ohm 1/4 watt. pot meter was pulled from scrap laying around. fan is 12 v 1.0 watt.

if it is the main fan, you could do that from xbmc settings.

was working on it and it works but not what i want so far. needs to be a lot slower.
