WTB/WTT slim xbox

Post by davidthomas »

I am looking to trade for a slim xbox. I was planning on building one at some point but I have so many projects already and when I do make it I am so crazy anal about everything that I just know it is going to be time consuming. I am not looking for some thing that looks real home made. Something that is in nice condition. I was looking at the show case and I saw some really cool ones. I have a lot of xbox stuff that I am willing to trade. I have a couple of 128 RAM boards and 2 extra 1GHz with the 128 RAM also.

I am in the USA. At some point I am gonna make my own. I was thinking of using a red XCM case to cut in half. Or maybe a clear microsoft case. I have about 6 of them here now that I am not using. But who knows when I will get to that! For now I want someone elses project.

Shipping is always a killer, i'd say just make your own. Only a couple of hours work, cutting the case down is the easy part.

I started on the slim xbox today and I got the case cut down to size and it was easy to cut it. I used a dremel to get it close and then a series of different files to get it smooth and perfect. I thought this was going to way harder then it was. I have not mounted any of the internals yet but I do not think that is going to be hard at all!

I think I am going to finish this one and sell it. I have a crystal clear case that I am gonna make in to my slim case. I have not seen a clear slim yet. Or maybe I will use a HALO green case. I have so many of them! But I guess I should finish this one first!

I do have a extra blue xbox also but I do not think I have the balls to cut that one down! But that blue with the custom xenium ICE jewel and xenium ICE chip would be really sweet!

Is there a written law that say so lol ? Blue Xbox are not that rare around here, I have 4 of them.
Only downside is that it might be harder to do a clean job on a transparent case. Do a black one first, at least.
No pain, no gain!

I have like 7 of the HALO green consoles already and like 6 of the crystal clear ones also. THe green ones are really flooded here in the USA. I did finish the cutting on the black console and it is killer! I just need to do the motherboard part now.

Well you still have a bit more to do actually.
There is the modding of the HDD caddy so it fits in the slim case.....
http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 2804#p2804
The lower metal RF shield needs to be trimmed.....
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a46 ... ms/005.jpg
The DVD caddy needs to be trimmed and the fan housing needs to be cut down and a 60mm fan installed in the shortened fan housing, that is if you want the slim fan to snap into place as per factory.

Now your up to refitting the mother board, power supply and the HDD.
I do have better pics of these mods if you want some ideas. They were on the old forum with a full "How To" of the modding of these parts but that was all lost but I still do have the pics.
Knowing how much of a perfectionist you are, I would imagine your after a finish something like this inside the machine?.....

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread. I'm curious when it comes to making a slim xbox has anyone just made the psu external like the xbox360? this way you'll have more space in the slim case?

edit: just remembered that the psu has a lot of wires off of it instead of typical three prong type plug (USA model).
