wouldn't it be by far easier to just read out your eeprom, that hook that IDE drive in a PC, put all your stuff on it, lock it with the proper eeprom-key and then put it in the x-box?

that's the way i'd do it.

ok, I've got the xbmc up and running. In what folder do I load/ftp my videos or movies in the xbox? or do I make up a folder? I used the 3.2 stable build from here. I aint really sorted anything out other than getting it running. I used just the Splinter Cell game saves and then ftp'd the xbmc 3.2

You just create your own folder and then add it as a source within XBMC.

Does it matter what Drive I make the folder on? C drive or E drive I can just set up a folder called "Videos".

Don't use c - keep that just for system files. Ideally you would keep e for just Xbmc but there is room for a couple of films if you want, just make sure you don't completely fill e or Xbox will have no space for cache files. Presumably your using a stock hdd so best bet would be to upgrade to a larger hdd or keep your media on a network share.

Where can I get the CHIMP HDD cloning tool?

Will a WD250BB be a perfect fit for a version 1.0 caddy?

Is the size of your WD250BB any different than the stock HDD? ;)

I don't know what the dimensions of my stock HDD are, hence the question.

I have a version 1.0 with a 10gb HDD.

Same physical dimensions - it's a 3.5" hard disc.

As spice says the physical dimensions are the same with any 3.5" HDD so any one will do you. The only thing you have to be aware of is that the drive needs to be "lockable". This information is very rarely stated by the manufacturers but you've got to be pretty unlucky to find a HDD that can't be locked, here's a compatibility list - it's a bit old but still quite useful.

I've set up a folder on E-Drive called videos for now with just a few things in there. I have 400 gb IDE harddrive that I bought. I'm going to have to revive/dig up my old computer for the IDE connection. I haven't tested the hard drive yet should I test it before starting to try to replace the xbox hard drive? If yes, what's the best way to test it? The guy I bought it from of the internet said "I think i tested it and it was fine with no errors under windows disc checker"

The hard drive is Samsung hd400ld and it can be locked checking the compatibility site. What is the best way to do this and the best software to use and where to get it from.

I've downloaded Coinops 4 so I'll get that on there when this is done.

Personally I use xboxhdm2.2a off a USB stick to prep the hdd but you could use chimps on Xbox to clone your existing hdd. When you get it setup you might also need to use xbpartitioner to format the partitions to the correct cluster size.

From what I understand I have to get Chimp on my xbox, I'm guessing I can probably ftp it to the xbox, I downloaded a copy of Chimp 2.6. I will then run the chimp program whilst having another hard drive in slave mode powered up (probably by a spare molex connector from my old pc) and ready to swap with the IDE from the DVD drive to the new hard drive.

I also have to set up the cluster size but thats done with xbpartioner, Should I also ftp that to my xbox and are the partations set up after you do the chimp thing and the harddrive is already cloned?

BTW I also downloaded Auto Installer Deluxe (AID) that has all the programs I need on it I believe (I think its about 1.2gb). If I burn this disc to DVD, can I use that instead of ftp-ing the Chimp 2.6 & xbpartioner to the xbox. How would it work? would it just run of the disc when the xbox is powered on or would I have to copy the files from the disc onto the xbox?

I took my xbox apart the other day and I think that I have either V1.2 or V1.3 (It wasnt confirmed from the site I checked, but atleast it aint a 1.6 as they look a little harder to do)

Personaly I wouldnt use AID, but if you do you just install the apps off the disc to HDD. Just click on instal Chimp etc. You can also use AutoBuilder to make the new HDD but requires a PC with IDE connections (at least 1) and an IDE CD/DVD drive. And if using SID for the mod you can use XBMC Installer afterwards to shore up the mod (were some bugs in 5-5.11) install XBMC etc.

As for the question about SID being modified Ndure, it could be construed that way, but its not. Both are just NKPatcher based installers. Take away the fact SID is still being updated (I released 5.12 a few months ago) the difference between them is realy just in the scripting. If you are interested in trying SID I would reccomend coming over to www.xbox-hq.com and check our release info, tuts etc.

I'm using Chimp right now, its cloning the hard drive over at the moment. Hopefully it works and I can lock it after it finishes. I see that I should use xbpartitonier afterwards to set the cluster size. My harddrive is 400gb how should I set the cluster sizes or format it?

Edit: I'm using chimp 2.4 when I tried to lock the hard drive option it went to the DOS like screen. I couldnt get off that screen so I had to reset the xbox and then boot back up again I then tried to select option 3 to lock the hard drive and selected it too (but it gave me no confirmation) I then tried to boot with the new hard drive and I got the contact support screen with green writing. I'm going to give it another quick go before I go off to my gf house.

Yesterday I tried to ftp over coinOps 4 witch I got from UG. When I unrared it is 53.6 GB. I use Filezilla for the ftp program. I went out and came back as it looked like it was going to take a long time, I had a few messages before going out about "this file already exsists" do you want to replace it, etc? I said yes most of the time, but didnt understand why this was coming up?

I think as it was going out I had about 200 failed file transfers. When I came back 3 or 4 hours later I think it said there was about 10gb left to transfer over and I had about 500 failed file transfers and another of those messages about replacing a file that already exsists. Clicked ok but the ftp kept on timing out and nothing else would transfer. My xbox was frozen and unresponsive when pressing the control pad. I tried connecting again, same thing. I turned the xbox on and off and connected again and my xbox froze again while Filezilla kept on doing the timeout thing.

On my F drive I set up a folder called Games and then I ftp'd the final "CoinOPS 4" folder, just before you get to all the stuff inside that folder. Any suggestions on how I could get it over or what I could be doing wrong?

Filezilla is set by default to use more than 1 connection, might be the problem? i forget what the max amount of files in a folder is on xbox ( think it is 4096 )but with large rom sets you will easy encounter this barrier, can't imagine it is file names too long either but worth a look ( 42 character max )

Ive deleted what I transfered already and will start again. I've started it again and the the folder I created on F drive Games1 but so far I have 176 successful transfers and 30 failed transfers, with another 16285 queued files waiting. Does everything have to transfer over in one go for Coinops to work?

It doesnt sewem to be a very smooth connection, I havent used ftp before so I'm not sure if this is how its supposed to be? I notice that it says 502 pasv not implemented quite a few times in the top update box, does that mean anything? Also I noticed that as Im typing this that Filezilla for the last 2-5 minutes had the (Not responding) in the top windows program bar. I'll leave it for at least 10 minutes to see if it changes. Does using my laptop while transfering affect anything? the xbox is not frozen, just checked if thats why its not responding.

Your not doing it over wifi are you? That could mess things up.
Also when filezilla asks if you want to replace the file you can choose skip (or whatever option you think is best) and then apply it to the entire queue.
