Strange HDD issue

Post by xsy77 »

Hi guys,

Have Softmodded and upgrade the HDD of my old XBOX form XBMC & Coinops.

I wanted to change the default dashboard to one of the above as i don't like or use UNLEASHX.

However, I am very hesitant to do this because of the following weird problem.

When my xbox boots, UNLEASHX loads to the normal menu, I go into file explorer but when i try and browse F: it shows nothing!
I browse through E: and boot XMBC, goto file manager and it also shows nothing for F:!
I reboot to unleashX, browse through E: and boot UNLEASHX via a different xbe file and it boots UNLEASHX with a different menu system?
From here i go into file explorer and can see F:, if I boot XBMC from here i can see F: from within XBMC.

I have searched around and can't seem to find anyone with the same problem.

Any ideas?
Ta!

Which softmod did you install? (To avoid the usual runaround, Splinter Cell isn't the name of a softmod, neither are hotswap or NDURE :). The answer is Krayzie, or SID, or Kingroach, or Autobuilder).

Where is the second UnleashX that you boot, the one that can see the F partition?

What colour is the LED when this second UnleashX boots?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

I'm really sorry but i don't know exactly. I know its NDURE and did the hot swap trick. Kingroach rings a bell?

The 2nd unleash is booted from the ndts folder?

The LED is multicoloured on first boot and red on 2nd.

Thanks again,

That's why it is giving you different results. UnleashX in ndts loads a different BIOS before it runs, and that sees your hard drive differently. It's designed for troubleshooting.

How big is the hard drive? Are you expecting there to be anything on the F partition? When you say "when I try and browse F: it shows nothing" do you mean that the F partition is empty, or that you can't even see the F partition?

Also, when you say "the LED is multicoloured on first boot", what exactly do you mean? We need to know so we can get the F partition to work properly.

You don't need to quote the immediately preceding post.

Cycling through the colours is what a SID softmod does. That's slightly worrying - not SID, but the fact that you claim to have installed a Kingroach NDURE hotswap softmod, and have ndts on there which is installed with Kingroach, but then you seem to have some elements of SID on there.

When you boot default.xbe from ndts, can you then see Coinops on your F partition?

How did you get it on there if you can't normally see the F partition?

sorry about quoting, just a habit.

Just tried another hard reset, its solid orange.
Don't know why I though it cycled through (I'm sure i saw it doing that!)

Yes I can see F: contents when in ndts.

Must have been in ndts when i FTP'd it over. I FTP'd more stuff today and had to be in ndts mode. Filezilla couldn't see folder in normal mode.

OK. So run ndts\default.xbe. Go to file manager, and use it to copy E:\ndts\files\C\bios\rt06\bios.xbe to C:\bios\bios.xbe. When it's finished, reboot the Xbox and see if you can see the F partition.

If that doesn't work, run it again, but this time copy E:\ndts\files\C\bios\rt67\bios.xbe to C:\bios\bios.xbe.

Edit: Just so you know, it's not an XBPartitioner problem, as is being suggested elsewhere!

You are da man!

1st Solution works perfectly!

Out of interest, what had I done wrong?

I can safely now change my default dash with shortcut maker?

Thanks again,

You're welcome - glad you got it sorted. You haven't done anything wrong as such. I suspect that you may have picked the wrong options when building your Kingroach NDURE file set, although I can't immediately see which options would lead to those symptoms on a new disk built with xboxhdm.

You can now change your dash. The shortcut files need to be called default.xbe and default.cfg, and you put them in E:\Dash\. Make sure you test them first - put them in E:\Temp\ to try them out.
