Re: Help with newly recieved Xbox?
Don't use the PC as an intermediary - just go Xbox to Xbox. Both XBMC and UnleashX allow you to make a connection to an FTP server, which can be another Xbox.
There's a bug in the UnleashX FTP, which means that either the client or the server doesn't work properly when transferring a directory - but I can't remember which it is. If you have used HeXEn to install or upgrade your mod then go to FTP (in the Xbox Admin section) and it tells you which doesn't work. When I get home this evening I will dig out the detail and post it here, if you haven't already found it.

Re: Help with newly recieved Xbox?
The bug in the UnleashX FTP client is that when you use it to get a directory of files from a remote location it misses some files from the list, so in UnleashX you have to add the destination, then send the files from the local Xbox to the destination i.e. id UnleashX is your client then you should always push files, don't pull them! As far as I know XBMC has no such limitation, so use XBMC to do the work.
On XBMC yes, you do it through File manager. Add Source - Browse - add network location. Select FTP as the Protocol, fill in the details of the remote Xbox (IP address, user name etc.) Select OK, then highlight the FTP location you have just added, press left on the D-Pad to highlight OK, select, then give the source a name and press OK. You can now copy files from the remote FTP machine to the local machine, but when I just tested it I couldn't copy files to the remote FTP machine.

Yeah I had the same problem on file manager in xbmc, are there any other dash's or boot disks that use the ftp protocol? Thanks for all your help

Re: Help with newly recieved Xbox?
There are only four dashboards of any note, and all support FTP: UnleashX, XBMC, Avalaunch and Evox. Evox doesn't support passive FTP, but feel free to try all of the others - they are all very similar. Just copy them to your Xbox and run them as applications.

Guide is up on transfer speeds, whufclee authored the thread.
Use UnleashX on both ends... If it gives you problems "putting" then try "getting". I found it copying folders as files and failing to create the directory after this. If you're doing big transfers UnleashX also allows to build a queue, making it my choice for FTP.

I am a bit confused trying to ftp xbox to xbox as all the emulators were massive and I had to delete them from my pc .Heimdall wrote:The bug in the UnleashX FTP client is that when you use it to get a directory of files from a remote location it misses some files from the list, so in UnleashX you have to add the destination, then send the files from the local Xbox to the destination i.e. id UnleashX is your client then you should always push files, don't pull them! First problem is do I need the av/ tv plug in the back of the xbox for them to boot up ok to do this ?
Do I just plug an ethernet cable xbox to xbox ? I tried this but when I looked in settings there was no ip address , should they both be plugged in to my router instead which would give them both ip addresses .
Sorry in advance as I am sure this will have been covered many times , my trouble when doing a search is that I don't really know what to ask so thus I don't get an answer :-/.
Thanks

Re: Help with newly recieved Xbox?
Yes, they need a video cable plugged in, and at least one of them needs to be connected to a TV so you can see what you are doing.
Connecting the Ethernet cables from each Xbox to your router is far easier, because each Xbox will get an IP address via DHCP. It also means you can use straight through cables. If you connect the Xboxes directly together you need to set the IP addresses manually, and you have to use a crossover cable.

Re: Help with newly recieved Xbox?
Ahh right , thanks , I remember making a crossover cable years ago to connect my pc direct to an xbox using two ethernet cables and some crimps , a proper Heath Robinson job but it worked if I remember correctly .
Yes I think I will plug them both in to the router , I take it the one you have in the tv will show up on one side of the screen and the second one on the other side .
Cheers
