Modding a version 1.6

Post by WilliamAshley »

Hi,
I'm a newb that picked up a used xbox for like $20 at a second hand store. I've just started an electrical engineering technology program in college and have a little background in ham, I have my advanced certification in Canada.

I've identified my version as a version 1.6 - made in china after 2004 (like in 2005) pretty much assuring it is a version 1.6, has the toshiba-samsung cd rom and the seagate harddrive

picture attached
think it is version 1.6
think it is version 1.6

I'd like to get something like evolution x on it. I have read this is possible with softmodding. I'm also wondering if there is anything that can emulate a dvd drive, ex replace the dvd drive with another device that reads as a virtual dvd drive.

None the less.

Is there a good source that says all the different mods that are available for version 1.6?

What is the easiest mod to do with a 1.6?

Is it true softmoding can be done.

Which mods do not require dvd like splinter cell 007 and mechassault?

Are there dual usb daugthers to replace the dual female controller ports? I notice they can just be detached. I'd like to set up the xbox to run linux a a server and xbmc box but I'd like to replace two of the controller ports with two usb ports. I know I can make my own pinplug but I am wondering if there are any aftermarket usb port plugs that are the same as the controller port only with usb feamles instead of xusb.

Thanks for reading.

Softmod is the easiest, with Splinter Cell (or MechAssault or 007:Agent Under Fire, but not all issues of the games are exploitable).

On a 1.6 the only alternative is to fit a chip.

There are no DVD drive emulators that I am aware of. Why do you want one? Once the Xbox is modded you can install a larger hard drive, and run all of your games from the hard drive, if that's what you mean.

Step one, go here:

Unless you want to install a modchip, read and watch this:

You mentioned you have certifications in Canada, am I right to assume you're still in Canada?
I have the games, adapters and save files needed for softmodding. I did 2 version 1.6 boxes for a friend a few months back.
If you're in Ontario, send me a PM

Keep in mind that the 1.6 video chip difference means that Chimps won't display, so if you want to clone and replace your hard drive you either have to do it blind or via telnet (we decided not to do that, so he went in search of a used older box to be his "big drive" one)

My friend, you are incorrect. Chimp 2.6.18 works with an xbox v1.6. Or you could clone it using the Chimp on Slayers 2.98 disc. Softmodding a 1.6 is no different than any other version, and upgrading the HDD is exactly the same with the correct version of Chimp. There is a link to download and a tutorial on using Chimp in my signature.

Mrmajikbus, I am very happy that I am incorrect. I downloaded the newer chimps version and my friend will be using it to upgrade the hard drive in both of his 1.6 boxes. When did the 1.6 compatible version of chimps come out? I'm sure I didn't see anything about the when I originally modded his boxes, maybe early to mid 2013. Although I don't think I checked the xbmc4xbox forums, so maybe the places I checked were just outdated.

Thanks

They have been out for a while now. Don't remember how long. I am glad that you have downloaded it, and good luck on your HDD swap.
