2TB HDD upgrade is driving me crazy!

Post by AwesomeNurd »

Hi fellas,
I upgraded the HDD to 2TB, formatted the F and G with 64K cluster, tested everything, and it was formatted the right way.
After I put everything back together, the HDD is not detected anymore, the console boots straight to X3 Config Live and it shows only C and E without any indication for the space :D I really don't understand what went wrong???? I hooked up the HDD to my computer and it works fine after that I formatted it, plugged it back in to the Xbox, to try and do the whole procedure from scratch, same issue, only C and E, could it possible be the adaptor?
Any help or suggestions?

Thanks

In your x3 config, make it so your partition config is loaded from hard drive. I'll look at mine and try and find where that setting is. It's a sneaky little thing the x3 is doing

In x3 config live, go to

Disk tools - new hard drive upgrade

Set "Use Saved Partition Table = Enabled"

Given everything else is set up properly you should be getting the correct readings from all dashes including x3

I figured this out, but the HDD is clean now, I booted Slayer's CD and all partitions show 0 for the space, but before that I tried to restore X3 Config Live to default, and now it shows up C,E,F and G but no indication for space :/

I'm having progress here, it now shows the available space, I will try to format again using the boot CD and do all this shit again :D
@Clabs: it's a Western Digital Green 2TB HDD + the second adapter I showed you :)

That drive I just installed was a WD Green tho it was only a 1.5tb. The adapter I am using is the second one tho mine had a jumper selector on it - no problems at all.

Sounds like you are getting there though mate. I took a few attempts when I started doing this stuff again and it was mostly me making daft mistakes :D Hopefully it has all come back now.

Keep us updated in how you get along.

Cheers, Mark

Sounds like X3 is not liking the disk or the adapter.

If you don't sort it, I will stick one of those new adapters in the post tomorrow - give that a try?

I will try with a different adapter and see how it goes, it hopefully will work, the weird thing is that when I first installed it, it went fine, rebooted a few times etc... the boot times were good, and when I had to put everything up together, I faced that problem :D It's obvious that there's a problem with the data speed, as the space only shows up after a minute or so...

I have x3 I'll get you an id on my adapter. Since it was mentioned , I have a 80 wire IDE cable. Could help and may be a good candidate for why i had hiccups at first.

Does it make any difference for the IDE cable? I am using the stock one, any recommendations or ideally a UK eBay link where I can get a better IDE cable?

I'll give a the IDE cable a go, I have a question for you guys who did it; should I buy a flat or a round cable? Will the round cable fit when reassembling the case? What length should I go for if I buy a flat or a round cable?

Thanks!

The Xbox ATA cable is not the same as the ones for sale on eBay etc.... the distance between the DVD drive and the HDD is not the same, that's the main problem, that's why I was wondering which IDE cable length should I go for...
