http://flirc.tv/ Great idea, but come on, at around 25 quid or so it's nearly the same price as the RPi with which I would partner it.
Who's got a better, i.e. cheaper but equally neat, idea for infra-red rx on my Pi (without cannibalising an X80X eye)...?

Re: flirc off...
I'm still tempted on this...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mele-wireless-K ... B0092KDSQW
http://dx.com/p/mele-f10-fly-mouse-3-in ... ack-128312
Apparently works with OpenElec out of the box.

Re: flirc off...
The price of the Flirc is perfecly fair.
AFAIU it's made for people who want an easy solution, not for people looking to save money.
There is tons of work on the firmware /software in a way that even my mom could program it without having to touch any XBMC config.
So that's what you are paying for. Sound very fair to me.
For more advanced users, what they did to make it easy to program will be a limitation. I would not buy it personally.
And yeah Geeba, I keep telling my self that I should try one of those Mele F10.
For the RPi.. You can use the Xbox DVD remote and the dongle with a USB adaptor. Like I did there:

Or you can connect an IR receiver diode directly to the GPIO pin. Like this (I used a TSOP38238):

I use that remote with my RPi and the previous GPIO IR receiver:

Re: flirc off...
Reasonable point. My point was about the comparative cost versus the RPi, i.e. doubling the cost of the solution.Xphazer wrote:The price of the Flirc is perfecly fair.![]()

Any idea whether this will work by default with my X80X remote?
