(Solved) Well, I borked one...

Post by mrmajikbus45 »

Laugh at me, but give me advice please. I was working on a buddy's Xbox, and had modded it with an exploit, installed EvoX just fine. Immediately FTP'd Chimp, swapped in a 320 GB HDD, still good. After installing larger HDD, FTP'd in XBMC 3.3.3, DVDx2, Slayer's 2.98, and my emulators to F:. No worries. Used Slayer's disc that was on HDD to point to XBMC in the F: as the default dash. After rebooting it, I realized that XBMC was in a folder named XBMC333 (Since I have 3 versions on my PC, just to identify it), and I forgot to rename it on the Xbox before rebooting. Get X-Box screen, then obviously no dash. Any ideas?

Note, I use a netbook, have no PC. Therefore, I have no DVD drive on my computer. Wondering ways to fix? I would love to get to a file manager, and change that folder's name. If I do have to do a DVD, what kind should I get for the DVD-R's? The Xbox has a Hitachi drive in it.

Xbox info: Xbox 1.6, game exploit modded (Splinter Cell), Hitachi DVD drive

My word of the night is dammit.

Hmmm, Slayer's disc back in and use it's FTP ability to edit your booting app of XBMC. A wise man sets his bios to boot a 2nd and 3rd app to boot so the machine will always boot an app if his 1st XBMC doesn't. ;)

Slayer's disc was on the HDD. I do not have a physical disc. Also, unsure how to set bios. This is modded only with a Splinter Cell exploit. There is no chip. Maybe I need to learn the bios stuff. First, we fix this. Second, we drink. Third, we set up the bios... (Second thought, let's do that the next morning), then we celebrate some more.

So it looks like I will have to make a disc. Which brand of DVD-R should I buy for a Hitachi DVD drive in the Xbox?

Perhaps you could teach me the bios stuff when I get this fixed up Xman?

If you make a Slayer's disc it has bioses on it that you can use that has EvoXDash as it's 2nd app and Avalaunch as it's 3rd. Just make sure you have these apps in your Apps folder as well as XBMC and the bios will find them. The Slayer's disc also has copys of EvoXDash and Avalaunch apps on it so you can copy them straight from the disc into your apps folder or as your aware, you can just FTP them into your Apps folder.

did you unlock and re lock the hdd to set a default hdd password or have an eprom dump by chance ?

you could rename it with xboxhdm or one of the pc based file system tools.

you could also hot swap but it is not something i would recomend?

Well, can't do xbhdm, no desktop, nothing else with IDE. No disc drive to burn with in my netbook. I'll figure out a way to burn slayer's disc. I just need file manager access really. Slayer's disc , using its FTP feature, will help fix the issue. Time to find someone with a DVD burner. Any recommendations on DVD-R brand for a Hitachi DVD-ROM in the Xbox?

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Xbox always boot a DVD inside? so it you still have the splinter cell saves on the hdd, put the splinter cell game back in. It will start up load the exploit again. Once in the exploit screen it usually has FTP access. Hook it up via FTP and change whatever went wrong. I read you don't have a DVD drive but you can alternatively use auto installer deluxe or heimdals Hexen engineering disc both have FTP access even the SPPV emuinstaller disc have FTP access perhaps get a friend or family to burn it for you. You can burn any of those to DVD-R pop into the Xbox once it loads FTP and change the file name. Just some ideas hope it helps.

Well, burned Slayer's 2.98 on a TDK DVD-R. Popped it in, got FTP access. Guess what? I was right that it was named XBMC333 instead of just XBMC. I earned a dumbass award for this. Thanks guys, but Xman, I couldn't find the way to edit the bios. Perhaps a bit of education is in order?

Jewel, I got it knocked out now bro. I just needed a Slayer disc, I knew that early on, but was seeing if there was another way before I burned a disc. I also was asking disc brands, as the xbox is finicky with differing ones depending on the disc drive maker. I just didn't wanna waste cash on a brand of DVD-R that didn't work.

I owe you guys a drink if you're ever near Indianapolis.
