Hmmmm just bought the run off Nexus 4 for £199 - really pleased with it... fast and smooth.... contract is £7 a month, happy days.

Nexus 5 would be nice.... but my days of cutting edge mobiles is gone I think... ;)

Prepare for that not to be updated by Google in 18 months...

Galaxy Nexus & Android 4.4 (KitKat) FAQs
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/3468085

Which is a bit funny, cause on the other hand they seem to prepare newer Android release to need less resources and work better on low-powered devices, while boasting about it:
Android 4.4 is designed to run fast, smooth, and responsively on a much broader range of devices than ever before — including on millions of entry-level devices around the world that have as little as 512MB RAM.

Yes, I know, one is from the management - which obviously wants you to buy the latest device by discontinuing the support for the older ones, perfectly normal - and the other is from development trying to make the OS better on cheaper devices.

But you kinda expect the marketing to get together with both and not boast about "millions of existing devices around the world" that could be updated, when they won't obviously do it themselves. I guess talking about million(s) of Galaxy Nexus devices not being updated is not something you really want to brag about on a release page.

I guess business is business, but somehow Google milking both devices and store alike to me puts them in line with its competitors, was just expecting a bit more from them.

Dan, the 18 months support always been there and i'm 100% fine with it. This dosnt mean that after 18 months the device cannot be used.
For the price of two Nexus device, you only cover the cost of one iPhone.
So more support and better performance than Apple for the $ at the end of the line.

And for the people to who it really mater, they can always use a community made ROM. Which is the MAIN goal of the Android openness.

The Galaxy Nexus is apparently not updated because of Texas Instrument that went out of the mobile business. Not Google fault.
Not a surprise at all if you fallow the Android development scene (XDA, nothing other), we all knew since ages that the GNex wouldn't get this update.

Yep I must admit - the Nexus I bought a few weeks ago is replacing a 4 year old HTC HD2 which started life as a windows 6.5 phone but is currently a full Android 4.2.2 device.... you can even run 4.3 on it if you want and apparently 4.4 is on its way...

Here it is... I'll be sad to see it go as its a MINT example... but no point leaving it in a draw to collect dust...

XDA Developers is a cool site! :D

18 months is fair enough IMO.

Lighter is means every low end device will contribute to less fragmentation.

Posting on a nexus s running 4.3. way past the 18 month release ;)
