get a working motherboard and remove them by flooding them with low temp solder.

Nowhere, you cant get them except for ridiculous prices (ie: 4x 25$+, and you cant just get 4, there is a minimum).
The first step in doing a RAM upgrade is to remove the chip from the donor board.
This guy have a set to sell, but honestly I would still get them from a Xbox.

Hi, (again)

http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/two-xbox-mo ... 539959.htm

These two motherboards won't boot up, (dead?), so I don't know if the ramchips are ok? But only 99p for both + £6.50 p&p.
I'm not sure if the ram chips differ on board revisions, anyone know?

You should also read the following topic "suitable ram for upgrading xbox ram to 128mb?": http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... f=13&t=460
WolfSoft GmbH still sells a XBOX 64MB RAM Upgrade (DIY) for 90 Eur (was 65 Eur once...):

Re: Where can I buy new ram chips
90€. (125$, 75£) FAR too expansive IMO.
With 125$ I can buy 3 used Xbox and get 3 set of chip. I would also have 3 PSU, 3 DVD-ROM, 3 cases, 3 fans, 3 switch panel and 3 gamepad ports sets.
And I would still have some money to buy a Chip Quik kit.

Sure, just buy a used box and desolder the chips. My chip donor cost me $15 including shipping
