Hi, I can't figure out how to make the SMB share working, it's driving me crazy!! I followed tuts and I can't make it work, I have Windows 7
Help please
I also can't get SMB shares working. I had it working with all previous builds of XBMC but after updating to 3.2 Stable, the same shares that were working before no longer work.
Edit: I've tried 3.1, the latest nightly, and even the last build I was using before I had problems (build 31096), and I can't get SMB working with any of them. The most surprising is 31096 considering it was working before. Does xbmc4xbox have anything cached in the E: drive? I started with a completely fresh install with 31096 (didn't even retain the UserData folder) and SMB still doesn't work.
This is how I have my xbox's set up with my main server.
Make sure you have a share set up, make a username "xbox" on your computer, password "xbox" as well.
Make sure this is in your Samba settings in XBMC.
Then when you add a source in XBMC, Add network location, scroll to SMB Share, enter your computer's UNC name in the Server field, xbox/xbox in username/password.
As long as xbox is in the permissions for the share (with default permissions), you should be ok.
And on your computer, open Windows Emplorer, in the address bar, put in \\ then your pc name (\\pcname) and hit enter,
you should be looking at all your shares with that.

Thanks for this suggestion. I tried this and realized that for some reason, the Server process on my server wasn't running. I rebooted my server and everything's back to normal. What a bad coincidence in that the Server process stopped during the 10 minutes that I spent upgrading to 3.2 the first time.

Can your xbox access anything on your network, or even outside of your network, using any protocol?
I'm using a static IP for the PC and the Xbox, I can access the FTP server without any problem...
this can happen sometimes if the xbox can't find the master browser.
tips: set the wins server ip to the address of the pc. try turning off machines in network and turning on again, with main fileserver pc going on first.
check you can access machines in network from another machine with commandline samba etc.
I've spent hours today trying to remember how to do all this, I'd written a guide on the old forum but it's gone so I just had to fumble my way through it all again... Anyway here's a guide if you want to try it out. Good luck!
