12v Fan mod

Post by sixties keith »

12V Xbox Fan Mod - all credit to original author.

install an adapter to provide 12V power to the Xbox case fan. This increases RPM, airflow and cooling.

Disconnect the power from the hard drive, connect the adapter between the power supply and the hard drive and then remove the fan connection from the mother board and connect it to the adapter.

When your done it looks like this.

If you don’t have an adapter, just make one yourself. enjoy

turns out i had a spare adapter laying around and installed this. My xbox is super loud, sounds like a weed eater. Is there a specific fan that i can use the adapter and have it silent?

If you use the onboard fan output you an control the speed in xbmc therfore controlling the loudness :-)
there is also an auto set target temp i just set mine to 55 deg c and set a min fan speed of 4 % and leav it do its thing.

When you leave xbmc the fan goes back to the default speed set in the bios which you can patch or if on a softmod you can change the speed with a config file placed in a stratigic position on the hdd.

You could also install a silent fan and if you are going along that idea you might aswell put in an 80mm fan there is a tutiorial on here somewhere if you look around :-)
