Help for 2TB upgrade problem and lockable drive

Post by fabz »

Hello,

Some days ago i try to update my xbox with 2Tb drive. WD20EARX (Green lockable).
The iso made with xboxhdmaker 1.9 from existing configuration seems working on another IDE drive ...
When i boot the xbox : error 11 ! unlock/lock each time, good health hdd... Playing the cable select, master ...
I have just tried with a ST3150041AS (1500G Seagate) and it is locked and restore with the same way ... Still not working with error 11 !
On other forums, my sata adaptator is reported that it is compatible with xbox modding. Can't find a solution ? sometimes when i search for a new drive or adaptator, it is reported to work and others says no ... really mess !
Any help will be great, many days without luck :|

My spec :
Xbox 1.1. PAL
Softmoded with splinter cell exploit.
Copy via ftp all my xbox hdd (from original).
Try with replacing xbox shell with a new copy downloaded, instead of existing one (same version, latest)
eeprom backup ok.
New IDE 80pin cable.

**UPDATE **
I try whith power-on externaly the sata-adaptator and it works well. Boot ok for the xbox. So the problem is the power-on delay is too short ? Can it be modded with my setup ?
Many thanks in advance !
Startec IDE2SAT adaptator.
XBOXhdmaker 1.9 ISO working with IDE drive (80Gb).
tested with WD20EARX and ST3150041AS unlock/lock ok.

I have made a wire in order to TSOP flash, according to this : (http://www.biline.ca/xbox_version.htm) mine is 1.1. So just 2 point. No sharp chipset.
I actually try to find a bios that can integrated a boot delay or something like that, if you can tell me wich bios to TSOP flash, that can be modded in order to ignore my long delay hdd.

Many Thanks in advance !

what you do is use any bios that you can program in 2 non existant boot paths before the real one which gives it a bit longer time to boot.
eg use the latest evoxm8 + bios and set the first 2wo boot paths in bios then the third the real one.

eg....

path1: e:\somefile.xbe
path2: e:\somefile1.xbe
path3: e:\apps\xbmc\default.xbe

use the team uix short cut maker to make a shortcut to your startup app this works better for me than the other shortcut tool with the ini file.

if that still does not work you can use a shortcut to a shortcut to boot your app this helps where some drives g or f does not come online on the odd boot up.

of note i have the same drive in my xbox and i have the first and only path set to e:\default.xbe and this file is the shortcut to f:\apps\xbmc\default.xbe using the team uix shortcut tool and i have never had any problems.

this is what i have allways used no problems so far:

the WD20EARX is a Advanced Format drive you shuld make sure you switch the drive to 512B emulation with the jumper or you will have problems if you switch this switch and power the drive it wipes the drives contents and is non recoverable so be aware of this.

Thanks for all ! i see more clear on it !
I have already put @ 512k at the back of the drive. So, for now, as i understand is to seach the latest evoxm8 +bios and tool it, i will try like yours, and flash it ...
evoxm8 + haven't a website ? where to find it ? i have seen a lot of version ... Sorry for my noob-level ^^

EDIT : on MrMajst3r end posts, he provided his dropbox tools&utilities for xbox :

M8+ is the version number, the full name is evox M8+, it went M8, M7 etc before. There is also M8+16 that is for 1.6 xboxes only.
Hope this helps :)

You need to solder both R7D3 (top) and R7R3 (bottom). Also I find it easiest to just quickly dab them with solder to bridge the points, no wire needed. :)
I have no idea if soldering just one point usually makes the light do that though, but I would have thought probably not.

Are you sure you have not dammaged the points as thats what it will do if you break one of those traces i know i have done it before as i use to solder kaynar wire across the points then wiggle it to break the wire off and i learned after it tore a pad off once to not do that :-).

It will not boot differently if you solder either point.

check you have not lifted a trace as it is currently fraging which it does on a bios or hardware fault.

It will help if you use a lower temp setting on your iron it will make things easier to create the blob across the points.

but it will help if you put a solder blob on the iron and burn off the flux by leaving it sit there and then just drag it across the points it will make the solder tacky and form peaks when dragged away from the solder points.

In fact, no problems :) i have just put a wire without soldering it. I have search a little about soldering, and we were both right, it's super accurate and does not tolerate foul ! That's why i will try with conductive-ink method.
I will buy it monday, i'm in france, nobody working today
Hopefully i didn't try to solder it directly, my xbox reaction is not normal, but only wire at the top may be the origin ?

Many informations that i will not take for my xbox, but a permanent soldering like my ps1 :P
I have already a 15w soldering iron, but without experience
Great community right here, without you professor jonny & asbo, My project would not just start in good condition, thanks a million !

Yeah !

I have successfully flash my TSOP with the LOCTITE Circuit + "glue" !
With the Slayer 2.7 CD , flash with Evoxm8+ for my xbox and it rulez ! My xbox boot correcly with my HDD ^^ Many thanks for all !
Last point, how to ajust fan speed correctly ? XMBC can ajust it by software and only under XMBC but, how do you set it ? 66% is really loud :? and VGA headthink is really HOT ! i can't stay in contact with it

Oui, le GPU roule quand même assez chaud.. Il n'y a pas de miracle à faire. :(

Yes the GPU is running pretty hot, there is no miracles to do :(

There is 2 ways to set the fan speed:
  • From XBMC4Xbox: but this setting is only effective when using XBMC4Xbox, soon as a game, an emu or an homebrew is launched.. Back to the default BIOS speed.
  • Second way (only possible on TSOP and modchip): Edit a BIOS with EvTool and set the desired fan speed then flash this BIOS. (Got to be real careful with this, one false move and the Xbox would need a modchip to work again)
*there is also a way to do it on softmods, but that's beyond my scope.

There is a few modification that can be done to help a bit.
  • Replace the original heatsinks thermal paste (CPU & GPU) with some good one like some Arctic Silver 5 or Arctic Cooling MX-4.
  • Replace the fan with a 80mm PC one.
  • Cut bigger holes in the metal shield.

Yeah, thanks for all this informations, i will put an eye on it carrefully, you know that i'm French ? that is surprising in this english world ^^ Je ne parle pas très bien l'anglais, mais google traduction m'aide pour le vocabulaire :D
Exactly, i have planned to change the thermal paste and do 80mm fan mod also.
I will try with the Atric F8 TC (thermal cooling), it is with a sensor, so it might be a great tool for a silent Xbox ^^

Once my xbox fan case installed, i will report temp & noise level, in my brand new XCM red case
