Modded Xbox Logo on Boot?

Post by yellowsnow4free »

Hi guys,

I recently found a modded Xbox in my friend's garage and we booted it up to see a white Xbox logo.

It basically looked like this, but all the green parts were white (except for the "TM" in the upper right corner):

Image

I haven't opened the Xbox yet to see if it has a modchip or if it's a softmod, although the Xbox was opened to fit the larger HDD.

Does anyone have any info on this? I Googled around but didn't find anything.

Thanks! :D

It got a custom BIOS so its not a softmod. Its a modchip or a flashed TSOP.
Best is to open it and have a peek inside.. If there is no chip its a TSOP. Also if the Xbox is a v1.6, it cant be a TSOP it must be a chip.
Any cases you should be able to drop a new hard drive in and prep it with an installer disk like HeXEn anytime unlike a softmod.
You might need to update the BIOS /flash it for using a very large hard drive.

What kind of infos are you looking for other than that ? ^^

Thanks Xphazer! :D

I've got a security screwdriver set to I might open it up and take some pics of the chip. Plus, I want to know the HDD size :P

Thanks again! :D

Does it look like this one?. This was one I did with EvTool on an M8 bios. Simply changed the "Lip" for Blue and the "X" to White and then took out the "TM" logo and also the "Evox" upper left logo. repack the bios, load it into the App EvoXDash bios options and use it to flash the bios.

Oww, you can use an undersized "Allen Key" to undo the security screws also just in case you don't have security bits or not the right one. ;)

Hey Xphazer, I opened up the Xbox and idk, it didn't look like a chip to me. Everything looked as it did from the factory.

My AID disc said it's a v1.4 Xbox, so my guess is it's TSOP.

Yeah, that looks about right, although on this Xbox it's definitely right.

I also noticed a file on the Xbox "original_bios.bin", so it's definitely a flashed BIOS. I'd like to return it to stock :P

Return it to stock? Are you nuts? You found this little gem in a garage bro, keep it modded and dont look back!!! Especially if the HDD is bigger than stock. First thing is to find out how big the hard drive is and what bios is on the xbox right now. You will most likely have to reflash the bios to change the colors as Xman said. Sounds like you have a copy of the bios on your hard drive already, download it onto your PC and open it up with XBtool to see what your dealing with then go from there.

Hey Nextelhalo,

I just said I'd like to return it to stock because I know I can softmod it if it's stock :P

It has an upgraded HDD, and I'd like to keep that in there, but I just don't have any experience with TSOP.

I'd like to keep the upgraded HDD and install the latest XBMC on it (basically what I've done when I softmod Xboxes). And if it isn't too difficult, restore the Xbox logo :)

How would I go about installing the latest XBMC on this? I tried doing it with AID, but it still boots to the Microsoft dash for some reason.

Before I basically formatted the Xbox it had Avalaunch and XBMC on it (I did save the bios copy though)

yep you're nuts :P
TSOP's are, IMO, the easiest things to deal with, you simply point the BIOS boot path to XBMC(or whatever you want to boot) and that's it!
No messing around with shadow C and all that other softmod headache :D

Lol, like I said, I just have no experience with TSOP, so that's why I wanted to go the softmod route :P

I'll look into TSOP then :)

Fair enough, TSOP really is great though :)

Since I'm nice, here's some super basic info.
Download xbmc and put in E:\apps\

download this http://www.multiupload.nl/O10O36A5RO
un zip.
open M8plus.bin in /evox/bios with Evtool.
Change any toggles you like.
With the arrows, change first boot path to E:\ then type apps\xbmc\default.xbe
Save.

Copy evox folder to xbox.
run evox.
BIOS flash.
done, now it'll boot xbmc :)

Couple of points:
Open that bios file from your xbox with EVtool and have a look, you'll probably want use the same partition stuff as that.
Your BIOS might have a WINBOND TSOP which makes things more complicated.
Give it a couple of days for others to check what I've just written, I have cognitive problems so I make mistakes :D

Thanks for the reply! :)

The Xbox is at my friend's house, so it might be my project when I visit him :P Plus, he already has an Xbox I softmodded ;)

But I'll research TSOP and see what others post here :)

When you say "Copy evox folder to xbox" where should it be copied to?

Thanks! :)

Well it doesn't really matter, anywhere you can run it from on your current dash.
I'd suggest E:\apps. Then you can set E:\apps\evox\evoxdash.xbe as your second boot option on the BIOS with Evtool, that way if you delete xbmc by accident it will boot that instead.
I'd recommend having a third dash as your third boot option for triple redundancy. Of course you can always boot off an optical disc so I suppose that would make it quadruple redundancy.

Yeah, after I asked it I was thinking "maybe it doesn't matter, since you're just using evox to flash the BIOS" :P

I took the Xbox, emptied all the root folders (C, E, F, X, Y, Z) and then installed the MS dash using the AID disc; this seems like a good place to work off of IMO :) (I have the original BIOS saved on my computer)

I also ran the BIOS checker on the AID disc; here's my output:

You should pop in the new SLayer's 2.98 disc and let it rebuild the hard drive from scratch for you. This would be the easiest way to get up and running. What size hard drive did it end up having? This will help you make a choice on what bios to flash to the xbox.

Thanks for the reply Nextelhalo,

It has a 120 GB HDD in it :)

Well if it's a 120GB then you shouldnt have to do anything special really, pop in Slayers 2.98 and let it rebuild the hard drive for you. It's been recently updated and do everything you could ever want for that xbox. Keep us up to date on your progress. :)

Thanks Nextelhalo, I'll burn Slayers before I work on it again (the Xbox is at my friend's house)

The last thing I did on the Xbox was I copied the C and E drives from my friend's softmodded Xbox over to the TSOP one (minus the SID folder from the softmodded Xbox).

When I boot up the Xbox normally it boots to the MS dash, but when I select "boot E drive dash" from AID it boots to xbmc.

Honestly, I'd just like to restore the Xbox boot logo to stock (not undo the TSOP, just change all the colors back and restore the Microsoft logo at the bottom) and set it so that xbmc is booted by default.

Well your almost there, the Slayers disc will help you along with the rebuild of the hard drive and getting it to boot into XBMC. However, if you want to change the startup colors you have no choice but to flash the bios on the TSOP. This is easy to do, dont let all the different tutorials and what not scare you away from trying, we'll help you along every step of the way. ;)

And certainly don't be worried about re-flashing a Winbond, I've done a few. With HeXEn.

Nextelhalo, what does "rebuilding the hard drive" mean? I'm a software engineer, and that sounds like formatting and reinstalling your OS :P I thought I just had to modify the BIOS via TSOP to boot xbmc instead of the MS dash.

I actually have a HeXEn disc, but I didn't have the guts to try a Winbond flash :P
