Hi,
I would like to set my Xbox up as a server,
My son lives 40 miles away, we would like our boxes to connect someway over ftp, so we can transfer files between them,
or i can update his box remotely.
hope you understand what i wish to achieve
If someone can tell me if its possible, and if so how to set it up.
Thanks

Re: set Xbox as a FTP server
I have not tried this... but it seems to me since a server already runs on the xbox it is a simple process of going into your internet router and forwarding port 21 to tthe static IP you set up for your xbox. If it was me, I would change the port to something other than 21 and I would change the default user / password since it would be accessible by the world internet. Of course this would mean forwarding the new port number.
If anyone sees I am in error please correct.

Thanks psychotron, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought should work. Often thought about trying this out myself - might use my parents xbox as the test subject next time I'm there

You're not. I've done it, it works just fine. As you say, it's alredy an FTP server, all you need to do is open and forward router port.psychotron wrote:I have not tried this... but it seems to me since a server already runs on the xbox it is a simple process of going into your internet router and forwarding port 21 to tthe static IP you set up for your xbox.
