need quick help for slimbox

Post by christop03 »

okay so i found the tutorial on that forum, and before starting to do it i have a 2 questions

are the xbox case compatible between every versions?

is it possible to do this with a softmodded xbox, with some way to make the xbox see a dvd drive even if its not here?

thanks

All the cases are pretty much the same but there is one difference. I dont think you can use a 1.6 MOBO in a 1.0-1.5 case without either removing the bottom RF shielding or cutting the shieding in a certain area. If I remember right it would short out your board if you didnt do this. I usually just pull out the RF shielding so I dont have to mess with it.

You can slim a softmodded box but you'll need to remove the PCB board from the DVD drive and plug it into the IDE/Power cable to make the xbox boot up without a problem. I've never done this myself but there are quite a few members on here that have done slims and will surely chime in correct my rustyness :D

Thanks a lot on the info, removed the pcb in the drive and stuck it somewhere where it had room without blocking the airflow, i think that was the hardest part

here's my first ever slimbox :D (sorry for crappy quality)

still need to paint it, was thinking white X and front sides with everything else orange.

also, that isnt really important but now the drive is always seen open, any way to fix that?

I dont think you can do anything about the drive open problem unless you changed some code, but you can remove the drive from being a source.

I got round that problem by putting a bridge wire where the ribbon cable was that then tricked it into reacting as if it were closed,
not at home at the moment otherwise i would say which pins at board type i used.

I had to do it because the board i used refused to boot the xbox without the 2nd mobo with the motor attached with the switch,
and there wasn't enough room for what i was doing to include it.
