Has your modchip got a config screen? Some have an ftp server and you can ftp direct to you hard drive. On an x3 you hold the white button on boot, another one i've got you hit eject when the light turns red briefly.

Why don't you flash the tsop? From memory you just bridge a couple of solder points and re-flash with your desired bios. Just be sure to resize correctly as (iirk) 1.1's are 1mb, not the more common 256k.
