Ethernet has lights, but won't connect?

Post by bigcletus » Wed Jan 02, 2019 5:59 am

I have an old Xbox version 1.6 modded with a X3 chip long ago. Running XBMC as main dashboard. This console used to be my main HTPC for quite some time and served us well. We had moved a couple of times since I had used it last, and I thought I would fire up the old Xbox to see if it would still work.

Well, it boots fine, but the DVD won't open which I am not too concerned about but more importantly the ethernet will not work. If it is set for DHCP, it shows 0.0.0.0 for assigned IP. If I manually set an IP to match my network, I cannot ping it or connect at all. There are lights on the ethernet, and the custom front panel ethernet light constantly flashes. It doesn't matter if I boot the stock dashboard or use Xbmc.

I have inspected the pins on the ethernet jack and they all look fine. Before I start to crack open the case, any other ideas I could try? Could I be overlooking something? Seems odd that the ethernet lights would appear fine, but the system info status shows "Internet: Not connected" and it will not receive an IP from my router. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What FTP client are you using?

It sounds that maybe you're trying to use the Xbox to connect to your network; that won't work.

The 0.0.0.0 is indicating the physical connection to the ethernet cable is good ie. there is power and the cable connection is detected but you should still be getting an assigned DHCP IP address showing. That suggests your PC/router is not recognising the Xbox on the network and that's probably a PC issue.

Thanks for the response. I was using filezilla on my Mac. I have also tried using a crossover cable directly to my PC and set static IPs on both. Neither could ping each other. I feel as if the hardware has failed even though the Ethernet lights flash.

I think you need some more specialist advice than I can give you. It maybe because you're using a Mac and there's some issue doing that but I'm only guessing.

In the absence of other advice you could try installing UnleashX as a app and see whether using that when FTPing helps but I'm not hopeful.
