HDD spinning up too slow?

Okay, so it's been a long time since I last came here. In the meantime, I got some more Xboxes - two 1.0 (PAL since I'm in Romania) and a crystal 1.4 with ST TSOP and Phillips v2 drive.

I also got some drives for each, so I can have them all modded (one of the 1.0 will stay softmodded, I accidentally broke the TSOP points because of my too powerful iron  ) - two 80GB drives (a WD800BB and a Seagate) and a 160GB IDE HDD out of a DVR for the crystal. (Seagate ST3160215ACE, also known as DB35.3).

Now here's a problem I didn't encounter with other drives but with the 160GB mentioned above alone: whenever I boot up the crystal (uses iND-BIOS 5004), it will do one of the following things:

1.Show up the "loading iND-BIOS" screen and flash the ring green for a while until it FRAGS on the same screen
2.Same as 1, except it will show E09: HDD PARAMETER ERROR (I set the drive to master)
3.In rare occasions, it will go to a blank screen after doing 1 without FRAG, and pressing the EJECT button will start up the flubber sequence.

Any ideas what can I do? My other 1.0 that I TSOP'd (the one with the 80GB Seagate) doesn't do this. (although that one was flashed with EvoX M8+)

error 9 is not a very common error I would try to replace the dvd drive ide cable from the other box and test it see if it has the same faults.

you could also swap the hdd's over ?

I tried that to no avail. It will still do the same. Maybe the HDD has a slow initialization sequence that causes this?

I know some SATA Western Digital HDDs have a slow spinup sequence and would require some stuff to be done to the boot sequence (DVD,HDD etc.) in order to avoid FRAG.

I get it from time to time when testing Chimp 261812 taking the IDE out of the DVD drive and putting it back in usually fixes the issue or the HDD.

HDD wasn't made with Chimp though.
I built the base drive with AID 4.53 then FTP'd the most recent backup I had over.

And your point is?

Chimp has nothing to do with it, taking the IDE cable in and out is what causes it for me.
( Chimp is just the reason I took the IDE cable out )

I tried replacing the IDE cable as well, to no avail.

Just try and flash another bios. Use M8+ or Xecuter 2 instead. I just had an 1.2 Box that showed a quite similar behavior using ind 5004. The ind loading screen always showed up but most off the time the box didnt boot up anyway started flashing after a while. After turning on and off a couple of times it probably boot up. Then i used the latest hexen disc and flashed M8+ and now it works great. Anyway i had a couple of boxes previously flashed with ind 5004 before that didnt showed this behavior

M8 does work with this HDD, but then I lose the custom flubber animation that iND-BIOS uses.

Anything I could do to make iND-BIOS wait for the drive to initialize?
