Can't connect via FTP/SMB, etc...No username for FTP...?!?

Hi there,

i hope its ok to ask a question concerning an old release of xbmc for xbox (codename: babylon ~2009):

after a few years not using the old xbox, i tried to connect the xbox to my pc via ftp. in xbmc i set a specific password for ftp, but its not possible to set a username (option 1/1: no username).

so i tried several combinations beginning from anonymous/password to xbox/xbox, but nothing worked.

when i ping the xbox i get a fast response: 100% of the packets were received.

Is the any (other) possibilty to connect successfully to my movies and isos stored on the xbox?

Hope, you can help! THX in advance!

Regards,

Mnasdaq

Do you have another dash on the xbox (eg avalaunch, unleashx, evox)? Open one of them from the xbmc file manager and FTP away. If not get hold of Hexen, cold boot with that and it'll install extra dashboards, among other useful things.

Wow, thanks! It works fine!

Now, i'm backing up all my movies and games.
Is it ok for the backup not using iso-files, but the folder structure. eg GameX/Folder1/File1?

i dont want my backup to get useless...

@mnasdaq
Use command line ftp or a UI client that shows you the error message.

You can try to rename or delete the Q:\system\FileZilla Server.xml, I believe it it recreated on restart.

Otherwise the password is in there as well, MD5 encoded you can decode it online or using a local tool, but without knowing what the problem is (see above), you can only blame the password...

Is it worth even bothering with a 2009 build Dan? The bin's the best place for it, surely. :P

I guess not :-)

Error Recovery Mode (white + Y) was another option I forgot to mention.
