Hey...never had a problem before but now I get an error everytime I try to upgrade to a new build after an extended time waiting for svn installer to copy my previous user data...wondering why I can no longer do this...

Specifically, when I try to run new build default.xbe, screen message: "xbmc fatal error: special://masterprofile/guisettings.xml, line 0 error document empty. IP address: 192.168.x.xxx
Starting FTP server...FTP server running on port 21, login: Xbox/Xbox
Press any button to reboot"

Are you using the latest installer? Can't say I've used it in a very long time as I ftp my builds across but I know Dan did update it a month or so back so you might want to check you have the latest version.

Do you have enough free space on the destination partition? It looks like it didn't copy the files correctly and that guisettings.xml might be empty.
Also check whether the zip file downloaded is the right size (check here:
http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/nightly/), just in case there's a problem with the archive.
Also make sure you got the latest version of the plugin (SVN Repo Installer > xbmc4xbox-addons repository):
https://code.google.com/p/xbmc4xbox-add ... readme.txt
Hope you read this beforehand:

Using the last stable release of xbmc. I've updated this way in the past without a problem. Installed svn installer again just in case. Should be plenty of room where I'm downloading, all my files on on an external HD and only have current running stable build on the Xbox. Have tried this with different nightly builds; i'll try again.
Update: same result.

Ok, have you tried a "clean" install rather than an upgrade, does it take a lot less?
Transfer the Q:\UserData from the old one on your PC and have a look at the size, just to get an idea why is it taking so long.
Also a suggestion, in the SVN Repo Installer > xbmc4xbox-addons there is a Thumbnails plugin that allows you to clean thumbnails not connected to existing media in the library - back up your Q:\UserData and try it, might prune a lot of thumbs and make it faster to transfer.
Re the empty guisettings.xml, maybe try another upgrade after and use a compare tool like WinMerge between the old and the new (on your PC) - is that the only file that was not transfered or a lot more?
