Updated XBMC via FTP won't start as Dasboard

Post by F.A.D. »

Hi,

first of all thanks for still supporting this platform, I just donated 10£!

After 6 years I just wanted to update my XBMC to support newer codecs etc. The first version of the XBMC was installed by the company that modded my xbox with a hardware chip. When I power on my xbox it automatically loads the XBMC which I really like.

So I downloaded the newest version of the XBMC connected my xbox to my computer using a ftp tool. I started another program on my xbox (an old mediaplayer) so that the XBMC was not running, so I could rename the XBMC folder.

The XBMC is located here: E:\Apps\XBMC\ I renamed the folder to XBMC2 and copied the new XBMC to E:\Apps\ and called it XBMC just like the original one.

When I restart my xbox I get a notification: Fatal XBMC error, <home> tag is invalid.

By the way the new XBMC runs perfectly when I start it from the original XBMC in the program folder, so there is no problem whit the program itself but it won't start as dashboard as the old one.

I figured out that there is the XboxMediaCenter.xml located on C:\ which says:

<!-- When using XBMC as dashboard, define home directory here !-->
<!-- and move the XBMC xbe plus this xml config file to C:\ !-->
<!-- Example: <home>E:\Apps\XBMC\</home> !-->

<home>E:\Apps\XBMC\</home>

I copied the new default.xbe to C: but I still get the same notification with the invalid <home> tag.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

David

Hi!

I was just browsing a post describing what you are trying to do there as "outdated" http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=220144

You may have to try to update your installation. See:

http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/mediawiki/i ... _Dashboard

!Make sure you have a boot disk that will allow to ftp before making any changes!

Thank you so much!!! It now works! The original XBMC was named evoxdash.xbe so I just replaced this with the new one!

And now that you installed Team XBMC Shortcut with its .cfg file, you can easily upgrade in the future through XBMC SVN Installer.
