x2config.ini or a shortcut.cfg?

Hi,

I have used the SVN installer to download 3.5.1 and now wish to make it my default dashboard.

Normally I would use the SVN installer to 'Set running XBMC as dashboard', but it comes up with the error 'Sorry, could not find x2config.ini or a shortcut.cfg'

I've tried looking in my various folders (I go back to a build in 2013, 32589) but could not find those files?

How can I make the latest version my default dashboard please.?

I am reluctant to Delete Old Installations in case it will no longer boot.

TIA

This is the support thread for XBMC SVN Installer (now renamed to XBMC4Xbox Installer):
http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... p?f=7&t=88

Unfortunatelly, Google Code is shutting down soon and the repository (addons4xbox) was removed since (must have missed the notice from the owner) and I didn't get a chance to move the wiki page (text and images) explaining what it does and how, sorry. Not sure whether I'll re-write it again soon though, your best bet is the second link from Total XBMC site.

Anyway, back to your question - x2config.ini is a configuration file used by Xecuter2 modchips to say what dashboard XBE to start on boot. You probably don't have one or the name would sound familiar. The second thing it looks for is a Team XBMC Shortcut .cfg file in these locations "C:\fonts\dashboard", "C:\", "E:\", "F:\", "E:\Dash\", "E:\Dashboard\".

If you're not familiar with how your Xbox starts your dashboard, might be a good idea to tell us more about it (how it is moded etc) before you make any rash changes that will prevent it from booting your XBMC4Xbox properly. It has been explained before a few times on the forums, might be a good idea to search for those first. You can poke around yourself especially in C: partition using the File Manager to start various XBEs you find in there and find out which does what.

Thank you Dan,

My box is soft modded via a game.
Looking at the xbmc log, I boot from E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe

I have only xboxdash.xbe in c:\

I downloaded the Shortcut XBE file and renamed it xboxdash.xbe and the previous xboxdash.xbe to msdash.xbe

Created the .cfg file as xboxdash.cfg and put it in C:\
I then tried your XBMC installer and it allowed me to go through and set 3.5.1 which was running as default XBMC.

However when I boot, I still get my old version.
In C:\ I now have xboxdash.cfg.old which I presume was created when I went through the above.

So where else could it be picking something up.?
I do have a default.xbe and orig-default.xbe (I would have renamed that at sometime ages ago, dated 03/08/14) in E:\Dashboard

My orginal listing

You seem to doing it the right way, you just need to find out which one is starting your XBMC4Xbox - I would use another dashboard or the File Manager in XBMC4Xbox and try to run them until you find which starts it - then you go and create the .cfg file and replace it with the Team XBMC Shortcut. The plugin might not cover all proper locations, that's what I picked up from the forums and the few discussions with users.

Ok, I seem to have discovered that it is the default.xbe in E:\Dashboard

I switched to 3.5.1 and renamed that default and copied the 3.5.1 default.xbe to that location and rebooted.

Got an error message about a fail :x , but fortunately ftp server was still working, so I have renamed it back, and it now boots again. :D

So I renamed the default.xbe again (it appears to be a shortcut judging by it's size), copied the Team XBMC shortcut and the config file from C:\ to E:\Dashboard and rebooted. Success ! :D

Presumably all I need do in future is edit the .cfg file in E;\Dashboard to point to the next version folder?

Thank you for your help.

I know my way around PCs etc, but am a complete novice with XBOX

Well done! Setting up the Team XBMC Shortcut was the hard part. Remove C:\xboxdash.cfg you created earlier (so it doesn't find it and stops there) and use the "Set running XBMC as dashboard" option in XBMC4Xbox Installer next time (that should find your new .cfg in E:\Dashboard\ an update it for you). You can check whether it updated it correctly using the Notepad plugin.
