If the buttons are working but not lighting up then it is possible that the cable to the switches is damaged or, more likely, one of the pins in the connector has become damaged. The pins are very small and easily bent if the plug is not inserted correctly. I had exactly that problem with a brand new sealed X3CP and I was able to straighten the damaged pin using a couple of watch-makers screwdrivers. It was a bit of a fiddle though.

Ok are you talking about the pins on the x3 chip itself.. Or to the x3cp?

On mine, it was one of the pins in the connector on the switch PCB, but I guess you could check both ends.

I do have a couple of X3IRs. They are plug and play but they are expensive and have less features than N64freaks excellent Xerc2 that he kindly started making for me.

The Xerc2 pcb can be fitted on the underside of the motherboard using a thin double sided sticky foam pad- near the front is best. The Xerc2 from N64 comes with an IR eye which just fits nicely behind the IR window in the X3CP. They work very nicely.

I bought a batch of 14 I think - and am slowly fitting them to all my consoles. His original was already neat and small but he has since released an even smaller board.

The IR eye is snug so you will need to cut the legs nice and short and use a piece of thin double sided sticky tape to hold it in place while you are assembling it.

You won't be disappointed with the service or the quality of product from n64 - really excellent.

I really need to pull my finger out and catalogue/photograph all the bits I have - work is crazy busy though and I HATE selling anything :D

Cheers, Mark

I expect it can be repaired though, most things can if you're determined enough :)
