The modchip green and red wire need to be connected to the correct points on the motherboard.
Green is LAN LED, Red is Hard Drive LED. http://www.team-xecuter.com/x3/tutorials/x3pin16.htm

Thank you for that diagram. I have a v1.2 motherboard. I don't have that 3 wire cable. Where can I get a replacement, and where does it plug into on the x3 chip? Perhaps an alternative to the 3 wire cable would be to use my own wires? If so, what guage would I use, and where on the X3CE would I solder to?

I am I have an X3CE and solderless adapter. Here is the X3CE chip:

I have seen the 3-wire cable for sale online but it was incredibly overpriced. The little connectors for all the x3 stuff well be hard to source. I have tried to find them with no luck.

I can take a peek at which wire is which, you'll have to solder to the chip directly which isn't ideal....

just whip of the socket and direct solder wires to where the socket use to be one of the wires is the D0 connection you cant use the mod chip with out it it is what tells the xbox to boot from the modchip connected to the lpc connector.
