Bricked xBox

Hi everyone!!
I'm brand new to this forum and could really use your help please.

I pulled out my modded xbox that was running an old xbmc and tried updating it to the latest version of XBMC4XBOX-3.2-STABLE. I found instructions online that stated I'd find a XBMC folder in my E: Drive but instead my XBMC folder was located in F:/apps/xbmc. I deleted everything in the folder and copied everything from XBMC4XBOX-3.2-STABLE and restarted my xbox. Now I just get a blank black screen after the xbox logo pops up with EvoX in the top left corner. This xbox screen disappears in 10-15 seconds and i'm left with a black screen. Also, I cant access my FTP anymore either.

Please help!! I was really looking forward to having the new XBMC on my xbox.

Error Recovery Mode
If XBMC is starting up (for instance you see the splash screen) but then is not progressing to load correctly after that, you can boot into "Error Recovery Mode" by holding down the White and Y buttons during startup.

This will give you FTP access to the Xbox via it's Fatal Error Handler. You can then retrieve any debug logs from a previous boot (which will be q:\xbmc.old.log) and/or correct things by reloading XBMC onto your Xbox. Note that not all your drives may appear via FTP while the fatal error handler is running (particular F: and G:), but this should not affect things, as the most important place to have access to is XBMC's home directory, which is always mounted at Q: (regardless of where it is located on your Xbox's harddisk).

You may also try to reset all of XBMC's settings to their defaults, in case the reason that it's no longer loading correctly is due to some bad settings. You may do this by holding down both thumbstick buttons on bootup.

Seeing as though your booting app was at F/Apps, I would assume the HDD was built using a Slayer's disc. If VanZan's method doesn't work, you can put in a Slayer's disc and use it to change your shortcut to E/Apps XBMC. It's in "Change Startup Dash" section on the disc. You will need to select the "Retail HDD" setting and NOT the "Large HDD" setting or it will have you booting at F/apps instead of your desired E/Apps. You can also put in an Install disc to gain FTP ability and just FTP your build in the correct location. Just make sure you set your IP to suit that of the disc settings in FileZella. They are different to those of your machine. ;)

Thanks for the great advice guys but unfortunately vanzan's method isn't working . I'm assuming the splash screen that I'm seeing though is not the xbmc splash screen. It's the original xbox loading screen with evox on the top left corner (unless this is the old xbmc loading screen).

As per xmans advice, thanks for the awesome suggestion but unfortunately I don't have the install disk :( do you know of where I could download it?

Thanks for your help guys! Greatly appreciated.

I tried pulling out the harddrive (I made a back up of the original XBMC folder before pasting the new folder) and booting it as a slave drive on an old xp desktop comp but no luck! I see it in my device manager but it doesnt show in my computer or disk management.

any other suggestions?

You could try Hexen. I've never used it but I believe it's a good rescue disc.

I downloaded the Hexen iso and extracted and burned it to a CD-R. Put it in and restarted the box and nothing...... It was worth a shot though Vanzan. Thanks.

Any other advice?

....if it matters, I used a program called: Free ISO burner. Does the fact that i burned it to a CD-R instead of a DVD matter?

Yip shure does to some extent, some dvd drives dont read cd-r and you often get better results with dvd disks.

the xbox dvd drives arn't the best you might need to switch media or even brand will help.

the xbox hdd uses a special file system called fatx (xtaf) and is not readable nativly on the pc you need to use a program like xplorer360 etc... to read the files and it can be very slow as it has to emulate the file tables in ram some how (magic).

If the hdd is locked you need to either hot swap or unlock it with the eprom but i wont go into this.

Using a disk like hexen or slayers or auto installer delux (AID) might be your easyest method to get it working with out to much fluffing around but you might have to try sereral dvd's till you get a working one slower speeds usually helps.

cd-rw and dvd-rw disk work also if you have one of them to try (xbox dvd dependant).

Ahhhh!!

So I downloaded Slayer 2.7 and burned it onto a DVD. It booted into the slayer menu!!!

I went to Change Startup Dash> xbmc on Retail HDD and it finished. I rebooted it and now its stuck on the xbox boot up screen with EVOX on the top left corner and it says SlaYers 2.7 at the bottom. It's been 10 mins!! I tried putting the cd back in and NOTHING....SAME SCREEN..

Please help!

WOW!!! IT WORKED!!!! Slayer finally booted up and I wiped everything and did it installed everything. I then copied the new xbmc data to E/apps/xbmc and I think its good now!

quick question though...

When I go to system info, it says:

XBMC4XBOX 3.2-r31195 (Compiled: Jul 25 2012) (i'm assuming this is the most recent)

but right underneath it, it says:

MPlayer XBMC-SVN-R17397 (Jan 27 2009 - 23:40:31) (does anyone know if there is an update for this and if so, how do I update it?)

BIG THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP!!! really appreciate it!

now i just need to figure out how to stream movies from a folder on my laptop to my xbox :)

Cool, your good to go then. Keep the Slayer's disc and I'd copy the other install discs as well, never hurts. That was the last time MPlayer was updated so that is correct.

Dont worry about that xbmc and xbmc4xbox is based of a program called mplayer and tweaked to what we have now.
the core for mplayer it is used in xbmc4xbox to decode the movies and as such.
it is coded into xbmc4xbox application this is part of the magic that buzz does for us.

That is easy one
I'm guessing you have windows? If so just set up a windows share (smb) of your movies then on your xbox go into the videos section and press the white button add source and select network share and you shuld find what you are looking for with a bit of fiddiling.

If you have vista or 7 you need to do an aditional step and open up the security dialogue and give the user "everyone" read access to the files in the share.

I think [removed] is only working in Jan's special XBMC4XBOX build:
