amazing amount of work has gone into that too, I am surprised that you did that with a 1.6 and therefore no ram upgrade
but this is the first time i have ever seen a 1.6 that I like so 10/10

What part is the "DVDROM Simulation"?

The first image hasn't quite got enough resolution to see it clearly.

That is one very small xbox Trusty I am sure 007 will have one of these next time he graces the big screen .
Could you give us a little explanation of things I.e the 5 and 12 v outputs please .

Ah right, ta.
So it's just a snipped off DVD connector with a couple of the important signals connected high. Clears that up, ta.

I notice Trusty uses Aladdin modchips. I could never get the DVD simulator to work on big arsed HDD installs and resorted to installing modded and hacked Thomson DVDdrive boards and mounted links on the board itself but the effect was the same. I used Thomsom boards because they were the smallest. Ow, by the way, you not only need to tell the machine the tray is closed but also that there is no disc in it to be read. My system is actually the opposite to Trusty's as it tells the Xbox the tray is open and therefore no way of reading a disc as it thinks the tray is open. It actually works quicker than it being closed but the trade off is the Xbox will try to close the tray when you turn off the Xbox via the button, (which it doesn't have), and the board has a time out feature that will ignore the open signal after about 2 seconds which slows down the Xbox's shutdown by about 2 seconds. This is the only side effect I have noticed and that machine is over two years old now.

Yes, it's telling the XBOX's BIOS that "one blank DVD drive" is presnet and healthy.

5V output is mainly for YPrPb to VGA convertor, or something(a Ethernet router or switch.... ) that you want get powered ..
12v outputs is mainly for LCD monitor , or outside auidio amplifier powered by 12V or something else that you want get powered ..

I'm inrested into how he gets the xbox to boot with out a dvd drive at all with no dvd drive fitted and a sata hdd.

i have tried with a sata adaptor and could only get it to boot by hardware tricks with the smc reset signal being held in on boot for a few seconds.

You need patch the bios to "without DVD check" also ..

Hmmm, interesting. I found the No DVDrive bios didn't work on sata adapted HDDs above about 600Gb. The 500Gb satas worked but the 750Gb, 1Tb, 1.5Tb and 2Tb didn't. The machine booted sometimes but as soon as you go into XBMC filemanager, the machine would lock up bad and require actually turning it off and back on to get a chance at it maybe booting again. There are a few things that may have caused this to me and not to you Trusty.

1....the sata to ide adapter I was using...DealsXtreme version 3
2....the brand of sata HDD I use...Seagate.
3....the No DVD bios I use...A modded m8

I think I'll rip apart my test machine and see if I can get the "DVD Simulator trick" working.

I might be mistaken but I think that's a laptop hard drive in trustys xbox? I'm pretty sure they spin up quicker and have lower power draw, maybe this is the key difference that makes it boot ok?

Yes ,,,it a SATA laptop hard disk ...
