So I was wondering. By old 120Gb has been running in my xbox now for nearly 10 years without issues. But what hapends if some day it dies?
Im asking because I want to know If I need to do something in advance, some serial or HDD code for all I know. Or Can I just put in a new HDD and run a new softmod hdd?
I dident do the hack myself, but I think I have the xecuter 3 chip in it if thats an issue.

You need to know for certain if your Xbox is chipped / flashed or softmodded, because the way you build a new disk is different.
To replace a broken softmod hard drive you need a copy of the eeprom from the Xbox. You can get that from the Evox dash, or by running Config Magic. Once you have the eeprom.bin file you have to copy it from your Xbox to your PC, and take a backup. Even if your Xbox is chipped / flashed it makes sense to have a copy of your eeprom.

Thanks Heimdall il do thar to be safe.
Im pretty sure its a xecuter 3 inside because i seem to remeber it showing in xbmc in the old versions pre 2008. Now it only say modchip lookup is disabled. Any software way to check or screwdriver?
Any advntage so chip vs softmod?

For all my softmods (exclusively v1.6s) I keep a burned xboxhdm CD with the specific eeprom file included. For safe keeping I put it inside the lid of the box ready to be found when the hard disc dies and the box is opened.
...for my modchip and TSOP flashed boxes I live with the risk.

I see. So the only benefit of a chip vs softmod is xstra security and easier install?
In now used evox to backup my eproom so thats good. But is there anyway exapt with a screwdriver to find out what type of chip and bios its running?

Personally, I keep the stock HDD from my own machines, as well as my customers' machines. I use a silver sharpie to write their name and xbox number (ex: billsmith1) on the bottom of their machine near the silver sticker, and a black sharpie to write the identical thing on their stock HDD. I keep the HDDs in a shielded bag that is in a specific closet.
I still have some of my old customers' HDDs sitting in the closet from my old Evox days. These date from 2006. I don't even talk to most of those people anymore. lol

Hehe, Il keep that in mindt if I stumble over and old 8gb hdd in the attic
So basicly since I have the eproom and the chip(uncertain of what model) im pretty safe the day the HDD dies. Il loose my data, but can easily install a new hdd with a new install DVD?
Any tips how I can identyfy my chippy withouth using an screwdriver? Tried the white button and press power trick, but went right into xbmc...

Hm.
Found my old Emails from 2007. Seems Iv got an EvoX 2.6 Chip in it. No idea what bios or how to check, but it dualboots as normal.
But then again, why mess with it if its working, a new bios cant be that much better?
But then atleast im safe if the HDD fails I guess.

Maraxion, use UnleashX or other software to determine if your drive is already unlocked. If so you can build a disk from scratch when the original dies.
