I done some research on this as thought movies on this xbox would be interesting. But it seems the bitrates of today and video compression like h.265 (HEVC) aren't usable even on an OG xbox, even with a CPU upgrade and 128mn RAM upgrade. MPEG-4/h.263 of 1996-2005 (that early 2000's era of DVD in this lower bitrate and compression should work on the og xbox though.

I'll see if I can get a DVD from the early 2000's to run off my one's HDD, though nowadays on modern TVs I know this isn't the idea way to watch stuff.

h.264 will play but won't play very well. Stick to MPEG4. 480p will give you more headroom for bitrate at the cost of some resolution. 720p is possible, but with more macro-blocking visible. 128mb RAM upgrade really helps for getting any kind of decent 720p content.
