Xbox Communicator Headset - Headphones?

Hey hey,
Just finishing off my Xbox to include everything that is notable enough to have a collection.
However, i have been looking at the xbox communicator headset and as i appreciate it was created for Xbox Live - can it be used as a headphone socket for the console itself?
I.e, can i listen to the output of the Xbox, from the communicator, with the tv muted?
Any knowledge would be appreciated, and save me some pennies!
