Yep, I just ripped one of mine apart and it will fit inside real easy. You'd be wise to remove the housing that holds the memory sockets that do screw to the board and then the board will be about 10mm thick. One thing you will need to do however is relocate the receiver's "tune" button or you'll need to open the machine up every time you wish to re-tune the receiver which you do a fair bit with Logis. May I suggest, to over come this issue solder two wires direct to the board behind the button that is soldered to the Logi receiver board by the way and run these wires to the front panel of the Xbox and disable the DVD tray eject button. That way you can use the DVD eject button on the Xbox as the LogiTech receiver tune button. I know your next question, " How do I eject the DVD tray now?". Go into XBMC's filemanager and go to D drive, hit white button an select open in the popup. To close, select close. Alternatively, push the thumbstick center in on the controller and select open in the shutdown screen.

It's time for a small update.

For now I decided to go with the original Controller S and a second replica purchased from a chinese website (still waiting for it). I also managed to get a 160GB Western Digital HDD (basically for free), it's WD1600AAJB to be specific. This should give me more than enough room for my favourite games. Until next week I don't have the time to deal with the HDD upgrade, but with the modded TSOP I don't think it's gonna be a problem.

In the meantime I received a cheap component cable purchased from ebay and I'm satisfied with the results. Intense colors, HD res on some games and dashboards. Too bad the ones I love are all in 480p but whatever, it's still better than it was with the old composite.

Ever since I removed the metal "fan grill" from the case, changed the thermal paste and set the fan speed to 34% the CPU is running about 52-53 Celsius and the mobo is around 48 C (give or take). It's not the most quiet machine, but acceptable and when gaming I don't really pay attention to the extra noise.

I also spent way too much time on NFS Carbon

Oh, and I have two extra questions if you guys don't mind.
1) kinda lame, but due to license issues I'm trying to get my head around where and how to grab the latest and greatest XBMC executable(s)
2) what's a good PSX emulator?

Thanks for your input ;)

You really honestly need the Xbmc version 3.5.5 to get the best result with the add-ons. Sadly a lot still don't work anymore but one that Ive still been enjoying is the Pandora script, that one still works well enough..
as for a PSX emulator, I haven't personally found a good one. They all seem to have issues in my experience. Either fast audio, glitchy controls or garbled audio/video glitches.. Id like to see what others say on this as well.

I find this PS1 emulator works well and has good compatibility with most games I play, plus its still active.

If you aren't planning a slim case mod, consider an 80mm fan. http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... f=14&t=218

Today I finally had the chance to swap the hard drive. I have used the HexEn boot DVD to format the new HDD, and it was really easy to do. According to other posts across the board I think the best possible FTP speed is (obviously) via wired connection with a regular home network (router) and using FileZilla and UnleashX dash. This way I can get about 9-11 MB/s transfer speeds which is pretty good I think. With other dashboards it was about 3-4 MB/s only.

At this point my Xbox has it's TSOP flashed, booting into XBMC4XBOX from a 160 GB Western Digital HDD and the fan speed set a bit faster than the original and it also has the metal grill removed from the back where the fan is located. It's not an extreme mod but it gets the job done for me, for now I'm just gonna play some old childhood games anyway.

In the future I might upgrade the fan with a bigger and quieter one, might throw in some sort of wireless connectivity to it, and a wireless controller.

I appreciate any suggestion, guidance you folks provided me along my journey. I love this machine, I really do.

So, thank you.

I'm gonna update this thread if anything related comes up though.

Here's a good mod, get another Xbox. Two machines will let you "play" with one and work on the other. Two machines will allow you to play LAN games between the two machines also. With two machines you can also fault find problems a lot easier. Two machines is twice as good as one machine no matter how good that one machine may be. :D

Definitely something to take into consideration, especially with friends. Add VPN to the mix and enjoy the retro Xbox Live feeling! But nobody has the time to play these days... you know, getting old is a thing you can't avoid.
