I think as this machine will be mainly music and music video orientated, it would be a good candidate for my son's soon to be updated 400GB HDD. Maybe have the machine boot direct to a page of pre-made playlists and you select the playlist depending on the music environment required rather than going through the normal XBMC frontpage. I'm just in the process of prepping an Xbox mother board for the job. It's a 1.4 board but I need to attach some wires of it to drive the sound effects boards I have had for some time but didn't want to use them in a normal Xbox as I originally planned because you can't get then any longer. These boards were always intended on going into this machine since I thought up the idea of making this machine. I think this machine is worthy of there use. Now it's up to me to make them work well in a very large machine that can use some good light effects.
These are the sound effects boards i have....

It will be mainly the Pulse VU board I will use for the lighting effects with a couple of chips with it to expand it's ability but the XERC CME SE board will be operating in VU mode and both boards will be driving a couple of Darlington driver ICs to up the current and therefore the amount of LEDs I can power from each channel. Out of a Darlington, I can drive up to a max of 500mA of LEDs. I won't be driving any channel nearly that high. This is the Darlington driver IC I intend on using..

I'm thinking the ULN2804 as it is very easy to get and cheap. Anyone have an advice?.

the pulse vu's would be easy enough to make with a micro.
