so anyway i just need to hook a 4gb flash drive with that cord, and let the xbox format it? then unhook it, put whatever media i want? then hook it back to the xbox and open file manager, then copy the media to the xbox hard drive?

Once formatted, I believe you will need to use Xplorer360 on your windows computer to access it and copy files to but I am not positive. Check out this vid tutorial Use USB Stick As Memory Card

I agree with you - that's the best way. When I first set-up mine, I had it in a different room than the computer so I had a 20' cable that I would occasionally bring out just for the transfers. Have fun, enjoy, and search the forums. The folks here are excellent and extremely helpful!

You dont need to format it in the xbox just format to FAT32 on your pc and copy your files to it, then plug into the console AFTER IT HAS BOOTED INTO XBMC then use file manager to copy across.
You only need to format the usb drive in the console to FATX if you want to use it for soft modding or you use a dashboard that wont read FAT32 like UnleashX.

Just be aware that the xbox is very picky with flash drives, so far i have had success with a generic swivel drive and a sandisk cruzer drive.
