7Zip, as I said previously!
But again, if WinRAR won't open them then the most likely cause is that they are corrupt.

I just right click the rar archive (if multi part rar too) then extract from the context menu.
Multipart rars will be extracted all at once if you choose the first part.
Ini files need no extracting. I think you're over thinking

Yeah. I'll write one up while I have a minute here;
All nerds start somewhere.
Most of the time it's with archives (zip, rar, 7z) and learning how they work. You need to basically use some context and keep on your toes. For example, try this next time your desktop fills:
- Delete stuff on desktop
- Use the program another way to extract them somewhere you want them (not the Desktop scattered all over like you originally did). It's worth noting that context is important here. Use your resources. If you got it to successfully extract to the desktop, use some combination of pointing, clicking, double-clicking, or right-clicking things until what you want to happen does.
- Fire up your FTP program.
- Learn how to use it (search google or use whufclee's tutorial in the tutorials section here on this site)
- Try and ask the right questions if it goes wrong
- Search google
- Ask the right questions here, if you are stuck.
All that, and you'll be a pro in *no time*! Good luck, happy Xbox modding!

Maybe that is just the first chapter.

First of all you need an urarar programe on your pc, I used rarzilla.
Then you need to download what you want from a reputable source ; I used megaups.me as they reccommend that.
You will download a folder full of rar files so you then double click on the first one and select extract at this point it will ask if you want the extracted files to remain in the same folder, just say yes, thats it, it will automatically extract all the files.
You will then somewhere have an extracted folder with all the files inside.
If you dont know where your folder is just search your computer for it using search bar if using windows

im not sure what i did but i think i have deleted all of the drives .they are all in the recycle bin ,can i salvage my xbox ?
if it can be brought back to life i will soldier on with it until i do manage to mod it with coin ops lite and xbmc.
but in the meantime i think i will just buy 1 thats ready to plug n play out of the box.

Heimdall will be the best to help but it sounds like you should be ok if HeXen boots.

Run HeXEn, select one of the Krayzie softmod installation options. Pick the one that matches your region. If you have one of the exploitable games pick that, otherwise pick the Splinter Cell version - in your case pick Splinter Cell, as you said earlier you had the game. Run it, read and follow the instructions. When you finish your softmod will be working properly and booting to UnleashX as your dash.
Once you have the emulator extracted to a single folder on your PC then post back and we'll talk you through putting it on your Xbox.
