Bargain Decent dual-core laptop 4gb RAM

Post by whufclee »

Hi chaps,

I have just bought myself two more laptops! To be honest they were such a bargan I just couldn't resist, for anyone that wants a bargain laptop I can vouch for the model (as I already have one) and the company as I've used them a few times.

Anyway... Lenovo X61, core2duo 2ghz, 4gb RAM, 80gb HDD £66.79 delivered!

Well the 4gb RAM units have now sold out but they still have the 2gb models available for the same price. I suppose if you're lucky it might have one 2gb module so you can easily add another 2gb, chances are though it will probably have 2 x 1gb modules but you never know.

If anyone is interested here's the direct link

Don't forget to use code 'DAFFODIL' to get it for £66.79

As these units are pre-owned there's no guarantee on how healthy the battery is - I've had one that only holds half hour charge and I've had one that holds a good 2 hour charge. The replacement batteries are cheap enough off ebay, I got a extra extended life battery for under £20 and it works great. Also it says it doesn't come with the power cable, again I've had one with and one without - I guess it's just your luck but they are very cheap to buy.

It's way quicker than my NC10 (atom 270, 2GB RAM) and that runs win7 pretty well - it was more leading up to any tips and 'Whered'yagetyerdriversLee?'

I'll take a look and see what drivers I manually had to download but I think the majority of them installed automatically with Win7, there were a few I had to download from the Lenovo site but not many (things like fingerprint reader - which I don't use but I had to install the driver as it was annoying me having an exclamation mark in device manager!).

I personally use Hirens Boot CD (on flash drive) to install Win7, it's so much easier. I know someone who is uploading a full on Hirens Boot CD with Win7, Win8, Ubuntu and Office 2010 so I'll share the link once I have more info ;) PM me mate.

The X61 I'm currently using has dual boot of ubuntu and win7, both work perfectly fine - I even do my video editing on it. I tried Win8 and that also worked fine, might install that on one of the new ones I have coming so I can have more of a play around with it and see if I can get to like it... my first impressions of Win8 weren't good but I don't think I've given it enough of a chance.

More information needed, is it a fresh install you've done or have you been running it for a while? Could it have picked up a virus or be bloated with unnecessary programs which run on startup? How much RAM do you have and what OS are you using?
