Original Xbox in Christmas mode

Post by Dawnvibe »

Hi
I'm new to this forum
At the task at hand
About a year ago I softmodded my Xbox and hotswaped
the original HDD with 1Tb WD HDD
About a month ago the Xbox while working, started to bring smoke from the back
the Xbox then turned off and upon restart, started normally
After shut down the Xbox got into restart-loop with the Christmas effect
Tommorow I'm ordering the new Xbox One X so I don't want the games from the drive
But I want to salvage my other Files
(Movies-Tv Series-Cartoons etc)
My thoughts are
1: plug in the original HDD to see if the Xbox works
2: If the Xbox works Hot swap the Second HDD with
The Cable and power from the DVD of the Xbox
And 3: to access my files from the XBMC to see if the HDD
is working

My questions are
1: if everything from the above works how can I Unlock my 1Tb HDD
So I can attached it on my PC
2: Is there any other way to make it happen directly from the PC
3: Any suggestions will be much appreciated

Thank you in advance

Do you have a copy of the eeprom?

If you do unlocking it on your PC should be possible but remember the HDD is FATX formatted and however you attach it to the PC (external USB housing) you'll need to use Xplorer360 or equivalent alternative to access the contents.

Even then I've had properly unlocked HDDs connected by USB and Xplorer360 still won't display the content. If it does work getting a significant amount of data off the HDD using Xplorer360 can be a very slow process.

If you can get the Xbox and 1TB HDD working again then FTPing the content is better the way to go. But if you have not made an external copy ie. to PC of the eeprom then if you can get the Xbox working with either HDD make it a priority to get that done.

I do not know if XBMC can do that so you might need to use either an AID disc or an app like ConfigMagic or install the EvoX dash as an app which has a backup eeprom tool. That EvoX dash tool is what AID and other discs which can backup the eeprom are actually using.

With the description of the smoke and other info it does sound as if the Xbox is genuinely kaput. Red/Green flashing LED is a general Xbox error indication usually damaged hardware, component failure or bridged traces. If it is restarting twice before flashing red/green then it is fragging and AFAIK that is as bad as it gets.

Hotswapping the 1TB HDD to an external USB HDD housing may still be possible but that will depend on what is wrong and if it is actually unlocking the HDD at any point.

All I can think of except for that, in the absence of the eeprom, to get the data off the 1TB HDD is to build/buy an eeprom reader.

TBH I do not even know if even that will work with a Xbox in the condition stated. If it still boots to an error screen it should be OK but as I've never used an eeprom reader even this is just guesswork based on the YT and other eeprom reader tutorials I've seen.

You'll certainly need to get help on using it and more info on how to use XBHM and the eeprom to unlock the HDD.

I put the original HDD in the XBOX
(Softmodded of course)
and plug in the power
still getting the Christmas effect

So at this point I believe my console is Dead

No biggie I'm going to redownload everything
(It's just a drag though)
Last time it took me 1 1/2 month to finalize

Thank you for your help
Cheers from Greece
