What do you think? Is this a good example of why all of those old caps need to be replaced?
It looks to me like a bad capacitor crapped-out and caused a short.
This was a v1.0 Xbox...

I have had that happen.
I phoned Microsoft as it caught fire and they supplied me with a new XB1 for my troubles
they classed it as prity serious and wanted serial numbers pictures etc...
mine was a lot worse than that it warped the dvd tray and case, it self extinguished it's self but it bellowed heaps of smoke tho.

How long ago did you phone them? Doubt they'd give an original Xbox now as a replacementprofessor_jonny wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2017 1:27 am I have had that happen.

14 Jan last year by dating the pictures, I do admit I did not let up and kept on phoning them.
I have pictures but they really don't do it justice of how bad it really was.
It was returned to Microsoft they paid shipping and everythin I just had to package it.
the dvd drive was covered in soot and the plastic carrier was all melted and dripped onto the shielding.
there was slight warping of the bottom, dvd tray and top case.
these are the only ones I could find the rest are on my phone that died.
