Belt size, DVD rom

Post by LudviG »

Anyone know the sizes of the belts to repair the DVD drives. All mine have stuck drives now, and i will try to fix them. I would also be very thankful if someone knew a place to buy

standard dvd drive belt should fit.

Also you can fix then quite easily by removing them and putting them in some water right out of the kettle. What I done with mine and worked a treat.

The same belts sold for use with the XB360 Samsung drives are generally pretty good replacements. The ones I've bought have all been 22mm diameter as they fit without significant stretching around a circular UK £1 coin which is 22.5mm. Profile is 1.2mm square. But I have seen others sold as XB360 drive belts which, in the listing, claimed the diameter as being less than 20mm. In other words you can't be sure what you're going to get.

The, now reconditioned, original Samsung Xbox belts I have are very slightly bigger than a £1 coin ie. 23mm diameter. It is reasonable to suspect that a 22mm diameter is also what they were when factory fresh and unused and therefore 22mm is the correct original size.

However I have used successfully drive belts sold as "20mm diameter" bought from an eBay electronic equipment recycler, without doubt a much tighter fit but they work well.

I have also read that some other users have bought a 20 x pack of 23mm (outside) diameter Water Tight O-Ring seals from plumbers' merchants and DIY stores at a fraction of the price which have apparently been used successfully. They have a circular profile and if the 'soft silcone' material they're made from doesn't stretch over time might actually work better than purpose designed disc drive belts.
