Casting Kodi to XBMC4XBOX

Post by poppiseed »

Is there any way that I can cast what I am watching on kodi on my windows 8 computer or my android tablet to my soft modded Xbox? I can cast some things (some movies, TV shows).

You could use VLC to stream your desktop to another URL - setup might be a little tricky, when choosing the destination (e.g. HTTP), use the Add button to actually define it. That's what you will put into a yourstream.strm on Xbox to play (e.g. http://yourpc:8080/screen).
http://www.howtogeek.com/120202/how-to- ... -with-vlc/

If you're managing to get it working but it's too much data and XBMC4Xbox is dropping packets (enable debug to see the video statistics on screen top left), try to reduce the FPS (Frames Per Second) in the streaming screen (above) and configure the streaming profile to reduce the amount of data sent over the network (video frame size & bitrate). See this as an example:

If you're not able to get it working, let me know and I might write a blog post going through each step.

OK, first question lol. When I'm in vlc, I hit add http. Now, what do I put where it says path?

  1. VLC
  2. Media (menu)
  3. Stream... (item)
  4. Capture Device (tab)
  5. Capture Mode = Desktop
  6. Desired frame rate for the capture = 1 fps default (try different values later)
  7. Stream (button)
  8. Stream Output (screen://) - NEXT
  9. New destination = HTTP, then hit Add (button)
  10. Port = 8080 (default)
  11. Path = /whateveryouwant (e.g. /screen)
  12. Continue with the rest of settings to the end...
Finally create a file called whatyouwant.strm on your Xbox with the contents and play that:

It is now 4:37 am. I just got kodi that I have installed on my laptop (windows 8) to stream the " movies" from all of my addons to my xbox by adding player core factory (that I downloaded) to my kodi userdata. So far, so good. I never got vlc to connect though. I created my .strm file and added it to my Xbox, but it comes back can not connect. I have xbmc4xbox remote so I pulled up the log and TRIED to read it, got lost and gave up. It is doing what I wanted now with what I added. Is there anything I should know about the player core XML though?

As far as I know playercorefactory.xml defines video players and can be used to add external video players - possibly the one you downloaded defines a video player that allows for outward streaming. Best way is to you look at what you download, or if you give us the original page with the steps we can talk about the same thing.

OK, I made the strm file (named poppiseedstream.strm). I added it to my f drive in a folder I named streams. I go into vlc add the http://poppiseedstream and it streams. When I click on poppiseedstream.strm using the file manager on my xbox, it says not found, check the log. Smh

I found the player core online. I will put it in a message for you in a few (on "daddy duty"). When using it, my Xboxs shows up in the drop down list and I just select which Xbox and it streams to them. The only problem with that is the Xbox doesn't play the movies that are in 1080, which is why I'm trying to get vlc going. Lol

you can try to set your allow programs on other systems to control xbmc, now when you use kodi on your phone or machine, press the use player, your ip of the xbox should show up, press play and it should play on your xbmc this is a great way, i think i only tried it on exodus.
