iPlayer - cannot "Watch Live".

Post by Amps »

Hi all;

Shame about the old site but... Happy to see the new one, and that you guys continue to share your great knowledge of xbmc for the xbox. Thank you all.

I posted this to the old site very late at night on the night before that site disappeared.

When using iPlayer, (for more than a month now), all seems to work ok except when I choose "Watch Live". I get 'Error - Script failed' after selecting any tv channel, BBC One for instance.

I have latest version, I have tried removing/reinstalling, tried changing "Stream source preference" in settings, and I've looked for info on this problem online all to no avail.

I have the debug log file and I can see where the error is listed.

Here is what I think is the relevant section...

Any ideas on how to fix this iPlayer "Watch Live" problem? Any help/advice much appreciated.

Has the "Watch Live" section ever worked on xbox? I only tried it a few times and it never worked for me. Just use TVCatchup - that's a great addon and despite it's misleading name it's actually live freeview tv and not catchup tv (make sure you disable HD streams in the settings though).

Hi whufclee;

Yes "Watch Live" absolutely worked up until about 6 - 7 weeks ago. About 2 - 3 weeks before I decided to post to the old site, which was 4 weeks ago.

Watched many Formula 1 qualies and races live on iPlayer's "Watch Live", as well as some football and snooker matches, some golf and tennis majors, etc.

I have other sources for pretty much all I want to watch, but if what I want to watch is being aired on the BBC, well... the iPlayer was awesome!

I'm not familiar with TVCatchup, so I'll check that out, thanks.

btw whufclee, your posts have helped me out plenty over the past... well... years I guess. I didn't have to post questions to forums, I only had to read them, thanks to you. (And others of course). So thank you.

Oh, and I'd still like to have "Watch Live" back on my iPlayer, so... anyone?

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad I could be of help. Hopefully Buzz might be able to shed some light on it, I'm not sure whether iplayer is a joint effort between him and Hitcher these days or not but I think it used to be.

Sign up for a free account at http://www.tvcatchup.com and then install the plugin via XAI and enter your details. You'll be able to watch all the freeview channels and a few more, quality is pretty decent too. There is a very snazzy new tvcatchup addon available on Eden which I haven't tried on xbox yet but I'm guessing it won't work as it has a really nice EPG but I might try it out tomorrow, I'll let you know if it's working and will update the version on XAI.

EDIT: Forgot to add they also added 24 olympic channels on tvcatchup this summer if you're into that.

I maintain the addon and Hitcher hosts it on his repository.

to OP:

Please specifiy which version of iplayer you are running - and post a complete debug log on pastebin. I suspect you are not running the latest version.

Hi Buzz; and thanks for the many helpful posts on the old site as well.

Debug log is here... http://pastebin.com/wznWjhQZ
iPlayer version is...v2.4.14

iPlayer version is current according to XAI.

It appears that only "Watch Live" is not working. If I go to categories -> films and choose a movie, it works fine.

As stated in OP, started not working 6 - 7 weeks ago.

And to whufclee;

Thanks for bringing TVCatchup to my attention, I like it.

please download and install the latest version - live should work on that - http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-iplayerv2 ... p&can=2&q=

I haven't kept the svn addon installer version uip to date - nothing works on that really, and I dont have any control over the repository - I'm considering removing the installer or replacing it with something else.

Cool, didn't realise there's another new release, I'll add it to XAI.

@Buzz: Any chance you could PM me when iplayer plugin is updated and I'll get it updated on the XAI repo. To be honest you can have admin rights to the XAI repo if you want and host it on there.

I think this would be for the best. I used the included SVN installer (in v3.1) as a bunch of old tutes on the web said this is how it was done. It was only with the forum going live again and v3.2 being released that I found the error of my ways.

+1 for XAI as the replacement.

Thats a +1 from me too - having found the XAI, I have no reason to use the SVN at all :)
Good signatures are hard to come by...

Maybe time for a poll to see what should be the default installer? XAI, Addon4Xbox Installer or SVN Repo Installer. Now the hard work has been done on XAI it's fairly simple to keep up to date, just need to rely on you guys letting us know when something's broken or you know of an update. I'd be more than happy to give some admin rights to people if they were interested in hosting their addons on the XAI repo or wanted to help keep it up to date.

Before switching the code, I would want to have Dan Dar3 involved also, as he was maintaining the previous code. What has changed codewise in the new installer? please can you post some diffs ?

Nothing much has changed in all honesty! It's just a new repo and laid out differently so it's easier to find what you're looking for (each genre has it's own folder). I'd love Dan to be on board - essentially the installer is pretty much exactly the same as SVN Repo Installer (I tried to make code changes but failed miserably) it just has confirmed working addons and a better layout.

I can activate your account on the bugtracker - http://redmine.exotica.org.uk/issues/186 and we can perhaps continue to discuss it there ? (that was the discussion relating to switching to teh addons installer, so this is a logical continuation)

Nice one mate. Literally the only changes are the name and the contents of the repositories folder (I think!). What would be the best program to use for posting diffs? I've used ExamDiff before to see what changes have been made, would this be any good or do you recommend something else? Anyway I'll get back over to the bugtracker later and discuss on there.

do an svn checkout of the xbmc4xbox trunk (tortoisesvn is decent on windows), copy your code over the top of the old stuff - making sure any new files have been "added" to the repository, and do a diff with tortoisesvn.

this seems to be broken again on all platforms.
TVcatchup can do it, but the current ver seems to hang xbox on stopping stream, very annoying!
get 1.4.6 here
http://plugins.tvcatchup.com/~xbmc/addo ... tvcatchup/
that seemed to fix it for me
(could also be clean config).
