HW Modded XBox won't run "any" .xbe files

I have a modded (hardware) XBox classic. The dashboard is evolution x. It had XBMC on it but when I try to run it, it just exits back to the menu. I downloaded and installed the SNES emulator - same story.

1) How can I diagnose the issue?
2) Where can I download an XBMC binary?
3) What is the best way (today in 2018) to run emulators on an XBox? Is it Kodi? Or Linux? Or...?
4) When I SSH to my console I land on drive C:\ but can't change to E:\ or anything else. What Shell is this??

Code: Select all

Chipped or TSOP?

I think you may be over-complicating the problem. That is, from your description, you can not get XBMC to launch from Apps and a SNES Emulator to launch as, of course, an Emulator. That suggests a basic installation problem rather than anything else more prosaic like a BIOS problem, although I would not discount that.

What it would be worth looking at first is where and both were installed and your EvoX dash evox.ini.

It would have helped if you were at least using a main dash with a file manager (UnleashX or XBMC) but if you have FTP access posting pics of the of C, E and F, G:\drive content, if present, and specifically your Apps, XBMC and Emulator folders would undoubtedly be useful.

That will, at the very least, confirm they are installed correctly.

Need more info to diagnose, what modchip is installed, which BIOS version is it booting.

It's running at least one XBE, evoxdash's xbe. Other's not working may be caused by an incomplete install of all files required for the additional apps.
2) Where can I download an XBMC binary?
XBMC4Xbox v3.5.3 available at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8mcip8xsfe1z ... Y_JIa?dl=0

Weird! The reset of my post was cutoff when attempting a preview. I had more info at the end after this query...

Kodi is the new name of XBMC after the developers dropped Xbox support.

Install them correctly. Or, give XBMC-Emustation a try.

Old thread and the OP never replied so who knows whether he ever fixed the problem whatever it was.

I still think it most likely he just had not installed XBMC and the emulator correctly rather than something else more niche.
