Video Plugins. Do any work?

Xbmc used to be a really awesome system because of all the plugins especially video plugins it had. From YouTube to TV shows to weird clip websites, it had TONS of WORKING plugins.

I downloaded a Junk's build of XBMC that had a few repos installed to try various addons and they are all so f'n pathetic; not ONE works, EVEN those downloaded from the "community portal" marked working for Xbox.

Food network, Stream All Sources, Disclose TV; GARBAGE. NONE WORK.

Are there ANY that actually do ANYTHING?!

Even Navi-X was garbage; not that I ever enjoyed it but at least it used to work in TGODays.

Any help finding out if anything works would be great. Again even those from your "community portal," shoot back errors.

Thanks.

I'm a fat guy.

Look on here
http://noobsandnerds.com/support

Most of what you want isn't discussed on this forum .
I think something like a T3CH build with everything that works at this point in time would be great , maybe you'll find one on this site .

Well, for me the old XBOX is great for so many other reasons than streaming content from the web. Without ongoing maintenance I don't expect to many add-ins to still work, especially the video ones. Last time I checked I was still getting radio from the SHOUTcast add-in in 2016, but I think that was the last working one I was using.

To me the main reason the XBOX is great is for running a large collection of games and emulators. The hardware is easy to maintain and reliable and I think it was the first robust thing Microsoft ever created. Playing a collection of DVD video and my music is also great. I would sure love an updated remote application for the iPhone that I could add XBMC4XBOX to.

If you want up to date add-ins I would suggest picking up a cheap android box, Apple TV, or PC platform for the sole purpose of running Kodi. My main entertainment centre is on a Zotac fan-less PC for the audiophile in me, and the ol' XBOX is primarily for reliving my favourite years of video gaming.

Your argument against support and development because you prefer video gaming is irrelevant as their are numerous dashboards which use lower ram resources and allow for playing video games and emulators. The purpose of XBMC was its potential for media playback. Sure, you can still stream media from a local computer, but in the age where any modern laptop or desktop has HDMI outputs, there is no reason to first download video and secondly stream it through the Xbox system.

Anybody who still cares specifically about video gaming is not using the Xbox anymore. The handful of fanboys at these and other few forums perhaps, but more often they are using more advanced platforms like computers or modern consoles capable of playing advanced game programs AND streaming media from online.

Further, opting for a bullshit android based device is also frivolous advice; why would I buy a separate computer when I have one ready to go which merely needs development for it to work again? Unlike fanboys and gamer-goons, I don't have a limitless amount of currency to throw at modern toys, and I really don't want those. I don't even own an HD TV set. I operate on a CRT, and the Xbox has all I need to connect to this device.

Of course because noone is interested in development anymore, we get the fanboys who say, "well, just get something else, I like what I have because I just play emulators on it anyway and that's all you should want," those people fail to understand the initial power and potential the xbmc project had. Those old T3CHs builds back in the day were bomb; so much was possible with the system, and now all that I see is a donate button and nothing worth donation. All this is a a few skins to load games anymore. The weather plugin?! Big deal, who actually uses that? I can look out the window to see how it looks or check my phone to know the greater details of the weather.

I've never been a fanboy nor interested in communicating with fanboys, I'd rather talk with developers and learn what the shortcomings are and why they exist. The system used to be great. We can get a working YouTube and porno plugin but nothing else? Why is that?

Far from it! I remember the old Xbox Scene forums, do you? Were you there?

How does expecting a standard in anyway represent "trolling?" Do you even KNOW what the proper usage of the word is when used to describe online "trolling?"

Probably not, because you're quite likely a young fanboy whom has no experience in anything on any topic of discussion, save for masturbation. I have been online in one form or another since the mid 80s. BBS' and early internet inceptions. I know what actual "trolling" is. YOU are trolling by not offering anything meaningful or useful to the discussion.

I don't deal with anyone not on my level, and you are SURELY not on my level.

Here's a backup of the old Techa host. Babylon release was actively archived.

I can't say if reverting to these old versions will yield results with modern plugins, but old plugins may still work if used with it. I just don't know.

I mean give me a break, right out of the box Apple Movie Trailers works perfectly, and I would NEVER USE a trailers app, but since this comes with it I tested it and BOOM, still working and streaming video.

Come on now. What's going on with this place.

Whilst everyone has the right to say and think what they wish, it is important to know that others can exercise the same principles.

That being said, you have made several posts, which sound demanding at best, and just disrespectful. I had to moderate one of your posts for using foul language.

For the record:
Internet Trolling: In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion, often for the troll's amusement.

With all due respect, you speak of how bad the current state of the project is, but I don't see how you have contributed to the project at all; that isn't to say you haven't, but it doesn't appear that way.

You want to pretend and disrespectfully claim that others, whom are just answering, are not at your level for not providing meaningful information, yet have not provided anything meaningful yourself.

Perhaps you should reconsider your own grasp of reality about this forum and/or project.

Yes, the forum is somewhat low in activity; anyone with common sense would deduce that this is the natural course of things. The Xbox is an old and very limited hardware by today's media standards and developers are non-existing - outside of the generous BuZz - as they don't have a need for this platform and don't want to waste their time with something they don't use. BuZz has been kind enough to bring to the Xbox a working platform that had been abandoned. This is no easy feat for just one person, but has been done free for those of us that are very grateful for his work.

Thousands of lines of code have been analyze and ported to the Xbox project from mainline. Sometimes the task has been relatively easy with minimal changes, whilst most other times have been a major task. This has been a huge accomplishment for one person. But it also stands to reason that some things had to be left out due to lack of time, life, resources, developers, and interest in order for the project to not completely die.

Those of us that still use it have made contributions, even if others think of it as minimalistic or irrelevant, instead of being self-righteous douchebags criticizing on a whim.

As for the addons, many are not and will NOT be discussed given that they deal with pirated content. However anyone feels about the topic, it just how this will remain. If you wish for a particular addon to work, logic will dictate that you contact the addon's developer and ask for Xbox support. Who knows, they might say yes.

This isn't intended to start a flaming war but to address a perceived destructive nature of your posts. We're here to assist whenever possible but also understand that it may be slow given the low user base.

You're welcomed to stay, chat, and - if you wish - contribute. However, please be reminded that respectfulness for others is important. If this isn't something you're ok with, I respectfully and strongly encourage you to find a better place that meets your needs.

Dom

Thanks Dom, I will just try to remain positive.

A big thanks to you, BuZz and all the contributors from over the years!

XBMC4XBOX is my dashboard of choice, that's why I hang out here. It's nicely configurable, in ways that I like, and prevents the kids from getting fingerprints all over the discs. This also reminds me that I need to check up on Rocky5's project.

PS: I have always wondered if that's a real picture of BuZz with the Commodore 64. I only had access to an Atari 400 with 16K and a 'peanut butter proof' keyboard back in those days. The computing landscape has been, and continues to be, a source of amazement to me.

It's actually a photo of my daughter :) Taken on holiday (Yes, I took my C64 on holiday with me - I don't get out a lot) ;-)

Xbmc4xbox is kind of like a platform for these plugins to operate within. It's not so much that X4X has changed what it's doing but rather it's that over time the servers that those plugins talk to change or disappear completely. It's all up to the authors of the video streaming plugins to maintain them. If they don't update the plugin when that happens then the plugin just stops working. For a lot of people who have the ability to write code, building video plugins for XBMC4Xbox in the year 2017 is just more of a novelty more than anything. The Xbox used to have pretty decent specs 10 or 15 years ago and was a cheap alternative to other media players but these days there's a plethora of cheap powerful devices that outperform the Xbox and, partly because of that, the user base for video streaming plugins isn't what it used to be. The demand isn't there like it was before. I, for example, bought a hundred dollar 4k quad core android device a while back which runs Kodi rather flawlessly and never looked back to X4X for video playback. I imagine many users are in the same boat.

While we're on the topic can I just say it's a miracle that X4X has working youtube plugins in 2017. props to dom and tim619 for their plugins

Cant talk about specific plugins here but theres another installer from the noobsandnerds forum (formally totalxbmc) which installs plugins to xbox with updated script modules. again alot doesnt work due to being too processor intensive but i do have a few still working on the old girl.

worth checking out if your wanting to still use plugins on it

So programming and development is stifled by the admin$ here because I guess they're concerned that the FBI or agencies of the UK will come knocking on their doors because they assist with video streaming?

Highly unlikely potential, but I reckon since WWII the people in the kingdom have never been the same, what with mass immigration destroying their culture and society. Indeed, streaming is a top concern.

Alright, so these forums are limp wristed; fair enough.

Do any of you know of other Python development forums? I'm interested myself in improving the RSS feed streamer through a sctipt if possible. Since I dont use the weather application, I think embedding a stream of local weather makes more sense. I'd also like to stream my YouTube subscription updates, and YouTube has an XML RSS file one can download.

The documentation for xbmc is pretty flimsy, I'd like to know if its possible to run its meat and potatoes under windows to assist trouble shooting and development. Since modern kodi development isn't compatible with the xbmc system, is there a way to execute the system under windows or Linux, as its all a series of scripts. Is there a way to execute the system on a PC platform for development? This might be why development stagnates by average users.

You can start your own repository and put whatever you want in it.
https://svn.exotica.org.uk:8443/xbmc4xb ... ositories/

The decision to not discuss or allow piracy related posts was already made and it won't change.

You can look at any existing plugin to see how it does things, it's all more or less standard Python 2.7 with some XBMC specific controls on top for UI. You can code them for Kodi on your PC and then adjust it to run on XBMC4Xbox. Try to write a proof of concept script / plugin and test it on XBMC4Xbox early before spend too much time and coding for libraries that do not come with the Pyton distribution on XBMC4Xbox.

http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/wiki/HOW-TO ... on_Scripts

No, documentation is not great cause no one wants to maintain it, anyone could do it if they wanted. Everyone pretty much just picks things up from here or on Kodi's forums and moves on at doing things. No, it's not ideal, but this is how it is. There is a specific Python scripts and plugins forum if you want to ask anything specific, but be sure you search the Internet first cause not a lot of us have time to answer them promptly. Good luck.

Now, I know I can sometimes come off curt with people and I have to admit I sometimes intentionally provoke people, too, but... wow. He's at quite a level with that exaggerated sense of personal entitlement. I can only hope you and the other mods don't ultimately ban him (not too soon, anyway) cuz in a strange way he's entertaining.
