Wondering if anyone can help before the xbox goes out the window...

I cant seem to delete files or folders.... or copy to the drive for some reason. FTP starts off fine... leave it running then come back and all the files have failed.

So not knowing what has or hasn't copied I thought I would just delete them and start again, but they wont delete ether :?

I just get this

Code: Select all

hi mate thats a wierd one but i think i had at least something before happen to me like this when using filezilla.

Firstly what are you using? if filezilla have you changed any settings etc also did the xbox work before is this a new problem?

If filezilla i remember that you need to set the active transfers to 1 and to enable invalid character filtering if not done so already. Default file type for transfers should also be ASCII

As for deletion now sure why it wont let you delete the folders, did you notice if its just the folder (ie does it still delete the contents of that folder?) if not i assume its a setting for ftp either in xbmc4xbox or the dashboard our using when transferring files

Hi Keith :)

Yeah filzilla, been through all the usual settings like you say... 1 transfer and invalid character etc. I did have the type set to auto so I've changed that to ASCII, doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I moved all the folders to a different location and I'm just trying to copy a few games over now... its going really slow... I usually get 10 - 11Mbps but its going over really really slowly and every file pauses.

Its a modded xbox, 1Ghz CPU and 128Mb RAM, 500Gb SATA with 80 pin IDE cable... it usually flys along on FTP, all temps are normal CPU and Memory utilizatoin are sat at about 20% but I've noticed the interface is completely unusable whist I'm transfering.

The disk wasnt old and I checked it for SMART errors and sectors when I installed it about a year or so ago... but I'm wondering if teh disk is on the way out?

** I recon its the disk.... it just sped up again to full 10/11mbps and now its slowed down again.... could be hitting bad sectors on the disk.

Have you checked the network status in the XBMC info?. Have you tried another net cable?. I've had this issue myself a long time ago and it turned out to be a cable issue or the network itself. Maybe I reset the network. I can't really remember exactly what i did.

Cheers xman ;) - I'm going to try a new cable today.

Failing that I think I'm going to whip the disk out and re-scan it :(

Still the same FFS!

Took the HDD out... SMART and surface scan both clear... completely error free.

New ethernet cable, new IDE cable, New IDE -> SATA convertor.... exactly the same... stupid folders wont delete, I hit delete on one and then it all locks up and the file/folder stays.

Disk formating incorrect? could it be that? its a 500Gb single F: drive with 150Gb free....

I've noticed inside the folders there are odd chracters like " žãƒ– €" and one has a file called ' Animation' which also wont delete....

I think this install is shot..... :x

Just tried a different FTP software... exactly the same... it gives more details thou....

Code: Select all

This error is the one that makes me think the disk format is incorrect? "2016-09-21T10:58:49Z The system cannot find the path specified."

xman, you do a lot of big ass HDD installs! ;) whats your prefered method? Slayers Disk? - I think I need to start again... :(

Code: Select all

2016-09-21T10:58:49Z Copying file. Source="D:\patched\Ghost Recon\Videos\M06_DPLV0601.bik", Destination="::{82AA9188-44E0-40B9-B956-43A10C315B4F}\::{12E31185-5A57-4E87-93C1-866CCF76821B}/F/Games/Ghost Recon/Videos/M06_DPLV0601.bik"
The second FTP client, the error message, look at the destionation path, that certainly looks odd how it came to that, I don't see any case where that would not fail with "cannot find the path"...

Code: Select all

::{82AA9188-44E0-40B9-B956-43A10C315B4F}\::{12E31185-5A57-4E87-93C1-866CCF76821B}/F/Games/Ghost Recon/Videos/M06_DPLV0601.bik

Is that with the default XBOX FileZilla server? That has a limited number of connections, try checking and increasing "Maximum user count" in Q:\system\FileZilla Server.xml. Also check existing number of connections at the time of transfer - see if this helps:
http://dandar3.blogspot.com/2010/03/xbm ... t-ftp.html

Btw, FileZilla (client) has an interesting feature View > Directory Comparison - especially useful when coupled with Synchronized browsing - where you can navigate both remote and local at the same time to see the differences.

I think I got it - I went to edit your first message in the thread and put it as code to see it better, and noticed that your path was funny - the funny char only shows in edit mode here (Firefox), it is eaten up when displayed. It's a 00 over 80 (U+0080 "Boundary Neutral [BN]" maybe?), a control character. You need to figure out how it got there and more importantly how to get rid of it from the existing path on Xbox.

Code: Select all

Status:	Retrieving directory listing of "/F/Games/Syberia 2/[0080]"...
Command:	CWD /F/Games/Syberia 2
Response:	250 CWD successful. "/F/Games/Syberia 2" is current directory.
Command:	CWD [0080]
...

Hi Dan

Cheers for the help mate, appreciate it.... I've tried everything and they just wont go... I think its time to format and start again unfortunately.. :(

I'm just confused on how they got there, I don't want to repeat it again.

Fair enough. Read your thread again and I guess the main issue was copying, not being able to delete it I guess was a side issue.

Yeah the copy failing is the main problem.... then not being able to delete the failed copies was driving me mad...

Do you think the disk format could be causing the issue?

I don't know to be honest, I'm not that familiar with all the issues caused by incorrect formatting.
If this is the only folder you're having problems copying over, I would rather think that maybe there is a problem with the source folder, maybe...
If you're around right now and if you can PM me with TeamViewer id + password, we could maybe have a look at it together.

Check the sata adaptor, that could be causing your issue.

hey, you have tried deleting from the xbox itself haven't you? like gone into file manager and delete the folder. The same issue used to happen to me then i either went into unleash x or xbmc to delete stuff. Formating seems the best option though if all else fails.

Hi Dan

Sorry I was out on the road yesterday, unfortunately it's not justthis folder... its a fair few others too that wont delete. I tried copying to the xbox again today and again it starts off fine and eventually goes so slow it took almost an hour to do a 20 meg file.

Rocky - Yeah I've swapped out the SATA adapter with another from a different xbox that is working fine.... no difference.

Sahib - I've also tried deleting the files and folders from the file manager, again it says 'deleted' but when you go back in... they're still there.

They move no problem... just wont delete... :(

Could it be a BIOS issue? this is my first TSOP'd xbox to be honest... I usually softmod and have filled 500Gb HDD's to capacity with no problems...

What disk are people using to do from scratch builds these days?

Make sure it actually formatted the partition, it doesn't always work.

Reduce the partition size then format, then increase the size and format again.
( You don't have to restart the Xbox to do the latter and former )
