Basically, will (or does) XBMC support these?
We watch all sorts of shows that need subtitles, and they've always been .srt files. Lately, (too) many have popped up as .ssa files. It seems to be simple enough to convert them back to .srt, but only if the words are in the English / Latin alphabet. Something like Korean / Thai / Japanese won't keep its encoding in something like Wordpad.
Anyway, I worry that .ssa files are the super-fancy future, and I don't look forward to being some outdated minority digging around for .srt's.
.ssa subtitle files?

Re: .ssa subtitle files?
SSA subtitles if not already supported by XBMC4Xbox, they seem to be supported by XBMC (http://kodi.wiki/view/Subtitles), so you can try to create a ticket here for development (see Development tab at the top > Project bugtracker).
Alternatively try conversion tools like:

Re: .ssa subtitle files?
There are known issues with ssa subtitles - we miss a library from upstream. It all needs more work - no eta though I'm afraid.
Re: .ssa subtitle files?
As long as it's on the radar, that's really all I can ask.
I'll try that conversion tool, too. Thanks, both.

Re: .ssa subtitle files?
Although .ASS subtitles are supported, the drawback is that they normally don't disappear when they're suppose to; they linger on screen until the next set of, well, subs...
One program I have used successfully to convert .ASS to .SRT is Subtitle Workshop:
Just load the .ASS subs, and save as .SRT; be sure to select the appropriate encoding, which for me, UTF-8 works fine... give it a try.

EDIT
Just realized you were referring to .SSA not .ASS; my bad... In either case, .SSA are supported as well; though I have not tested the conversion...
