Kids Xbox
Kids Xbox
Hello everyone just bought my kids a xbox Its a hardmodded DuoX2 with Evox M8 Plus bios version 1.6. Just been deleting movies and lots of porn to make room for kids games and movies It loads to unleashx dash from E drive and a very ancient xbmc from F/apps which takes an age to load shouldn't dashboard load from C and xbmc from E/apps. I'm going to update xbmc to 3.2.1 but was just wondering what peoples thoughts on this and should this be changed

Re: Kids Xbox
You might be better off doing a clean rebuild rather than trying to work out how the previous owner had it set up. Grab HeXEn (Google "Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc", or have a look at Xphazer's signature), burn it to DVD-R at 4x or slower, cold boot with it in the DVD drive, and use option 3.5.3 (NTSC) or 3.5.4 (PAL) to rebuild your disk. Obviously you'll lose everything that's on there, but that might not be a bad thing . You can then use HeXEn to install XBMC to E:\, replace XBMC with the latest version, then use the menu options provided (either in the UnleashX menu or on the HeXEn disk) to switch to XBMC as your main dash if that's what you want - see this post for details.
Re: Kids Xbox
Thanks Heimdall I think I will do that when you say you lose everything do you mean just on E drive or on F drive which is 250gb I will use your disc to make xbmc the main dash easier for young kids to use Cheers

Re: Kids Xbox
Yes, you'll lose everything on E and F if you select those options.
You can't use HeXEn to set up XBMC as a dash unless you've built the disk with HeXEn first.... I did try really hard to make it universal, but it was impossible - the UnleashX batch scripting language just wasn't quite flexible enough!

Re: Kids Xbox
Don't panic - someone has edited the BIOS before flashing and removed the default hacked dash boot location, so none of the boot / rescue discs will help you. However, it's really easy to fix manually, but I'm at work at the moment so don't have time to write the detail. If no-one else gets back to you before this evening I'll sort out an answer for you when I get back from work.

Re: Kids Xbox
That will be exactly how to change it or at least you can us it to see what the 3 options are actually set and and then you can just use one of the others if that best suits you. You may find something like E/ XBMC is actually on there and that would enable you to have it direct boot without a shortcut. It doesn't matter which of the 3 boots you actually use, it just means if you use the 2nd of 3rd, the machine will take slightly longer to boot. The stock boot location should be E/EvoXDash .xbe or E/Apps/EvoXDash .xbe or F/EvoXDash .xbe or F/Apps/EvoXDash .xbe by the way and if this isn't one of your 3 boot locations, your normal shortcut will not work. I know on the Slayer's disc there are boot locations to suit Avalaunch and the other Apps as well. Maybe without editing the bios "yet", you may like to try those other shortcuts and see if that gives you joy.
Re: Kids Xbox
Thanks Xman with hexen disc in I ftp in and took evoxdash.xbe in C:\ and placed once at a time in the different folders you said and rebooted still nothing apart from MS Dash every time. Before I used hexen disc described in method above there was in E:\EEPROMBackupBeforeLock. Bin cfg and txt and unleashx folder and other dashboard folders Any help would appreciated Thank you
Re: Kids Xbox
Hello everyone been doing a bit of research on this problem I think I need to use either Hexen or Slayers 2.7 to reflash the bios to sort out the dash booting paths. Any info on this would be appreciated

Re: Kids Xbox
That is only going to work if you actually have a shortcut pointing to that file and it sounds like you do not. Check with EvTool using it to open up the bios and see what is actually in the bios. Those examples I gave are the standard ones that come to mind but as they aren't giving you joy, sounds like you need to see what is actually loaded and once you know that, you can put in the shortcut that suits your needs. To view the bios, you need to load the bios in EvTool and unpack it and it's settings will be displayed but this will only work if you indeed have an M8 bios in the modchip. If it is any other type of bios loaded, EvTool will not help you. Just thinking, have you tried booting the machine using the DVD button instead of the on / off button?. It was common to use the upper button to boot for live play and the lower for booting the modchip. No modchip enabled = MS dash. On Aladdin Modchips, you would hold the button in for longer that a pulse to enable the modchip. I'm pretty sure DuoXs used the lower button approach to enable the modchip.shady7 wrote:Thanks Xman with hexen disc in I ftp in and took evoxdash.xbe in C:\ and placed once at a time in the different folders you said and rebooted still nothing apart from MS Dash every time. Re: Kids Xbox
I tried loading the E:\EEPROM.bin file in EVtool and it said kernel extraction failed. I thought it was evox m8+ v16 bios because it said that in XBMC settings info. Tried with dvd button still loads to MS Dash. When turning on xbox after the flubber it loads to a blue xbox and I can see the Duox2 chip blinking through xbox. Do you think I should flash bios using Hexen?

Re: Kids Xbox
Well that confirms the chip is enabled. You could try but I doubt it will flash as it is only going into the MSDash. Have you checked inside the machine to see if the "D0" wire is still attached to the modchip and the mother board. This wire disconnecting will prevent the working modchip from loading it's bios and will make the machine revert back to the onboard bios which would cause such a problem. Alternatively, the DuoX modchip may well have just corrupted the bios, I have had this happen myself on a DuoX2 modchip for no apparent reason, one day working fine, next day machine fails to boot. Hotswapping the modchip with another working modchip so I could reflash it fixed this and the modchip hasn't failed since but Xphaser has also had this problem like I with a DuoX modchip so I wouldn't right that problem out although you did mention you were able to FTP using a install disc so this would seem unlikely the problem. See if you can flash the bios but make sure you use a bios 512kb in size and not a 256kb sized bios. Have you checked to see if your DuoX modchip has a switch that switches from one loaded bios to another?. Some have provision for two bioses but others such as the DuoX2 lite only have one with no switch. You would be looking for a little slide switch on the modchip board and depending on how the board was installed, it was designed so you could slide the switch through the side grill of the Xbox case but like I say, it really depends how the modchip was installed as to whether this is indeed an option. Probably best to open the machine and have a look.shady7 wrote: When turning on xbox after the flubber it loads to a blue xbox and I can see the Duox2 chip blinking through xbox.
