For sale Seagate Dockstar NAS with 500GB hard drive

Post by asbo »

I'm selling my Dockstar because I've replaced it and my other NAS with a microserver.

The Dockstar has been flashed with Jeff Doozan's Uboot loader and rescue system V2. This allows the Dockstar to boot operating systems off a usb stick. It also replaces the default firmware with the rescue system.

The Dockstar is a wonderful device, and with debian on a USB stick you can install all sorts of useful programs. Example: I used mine as a download station with Pyload which can download from various 'one click' file hosts and direct http links as well. No need to leave your PC on over night downloading. I also had Squeezebox server on there which streamed music to the Joggler in the kitchen. And of course it served as a NAS device for all the PC's and Xboxes etc.

I'll put a fresh copy of Debian with squeezeplug on the USB stick so you just plug it in and go. Note, there's a easy onetime setup script you have to run and you don't have to install squeezebox server if you don't want it.

Dockstar comes with:
no box or manual
power supply with Canadian plug and UK adapter
network cable
8GB USB stick with debian squeezeplug. Info - http://squeezeplug.de/ http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/S ... tup_Debian
Seagate Freeagent GoFlex 500GB hard drive and USB cable. This slots into the top of the Dockstar. It also has an interchangeable interface so you can, for example, take off the USB attachment and put on a USB 3.0 attachment.
USB to serial interface. - Just in case you can't connect via network if something goes wrong.

Note: a bit of experience with linux is recommended if you want to install things not in the setup script. Such as pyload.

I may be able to restore the default firmware if anyone wants it in unmodified form.

£60 including P+P to the UK.

And of course I'll help the buyer via email/PM however I can.
