My softmodded XBOX is really getting up there in age and I am worried about the hard drive dying. What is the best way for me to create a backup image of the entire XBOX HDD? Can linux dd command natively recognize the FATX filesystem format?
The idea is that if my HDD dies I could easily get it up and running again by burning my image to a new HDD. Thanks!

Problem with that is your softmodded. HDD Raw Copy Tool can make an image of it but you can't read the drive on any computer unless you unlock it. But then if you unlock it, there's the question of how to re-lock it. If you're softmodded and you have a 1.6 motherboard your best bet is a backup by way of FTP. Not fast but it'll get the job done. Now if you don't have a 1.6 motherboard you could consider TSOP modding it which will allow you do run the drive unlocked and backing up a whole lot easier.
I make a conscious effort to use terms that can be googled.
