it's better to search a similar donor xbox maiboard or console, and remove the chips from it. (with an hot air gun).
These pretzels are making me thirsty!

You can get RAM chips from www.utsource.net or Ebay. Just search for K4D263238D-QC50, K4D263238M-QC50 or K4D263238F-QC50.

You can also buy them on aliexpress. For me it was the cheapest option. And just as @MrMajst3r said:

There 3 different versions of the Samsung RAM chips;
Xbox Versions 1.0 - 1.1 = K4D263238M-QC50
Xbox Versions 1.2 - 1.3 = K4D263238D-QC50
Xbox Versions 1.4 - 1.5 = K4D263238F-QC50
To be 100% sure just open your Xbox and check which model number you have.

Be good if they did work... wouldn't upgrading all of the RAM chips with them give 256mb? as they are 128mb and I imagine have to be run as pairs or sets?

N64-Freak would be the man to ask to try it maybe? ;)

I believe going above 128 is not going to happen any time soon.

For starters you cant buy ram chips in the same package as the current ones in bigger sizes they really only come in BGA form above 128 and would require an adaptor to the convert it to fit the motherboard.

The design of this adaptor is a big task and would require quite extensive expertise to design and it is just not something you can knock up trace lengths, inductance, capacitance, trace meandering etc needs to be taken into account to ensure the signals arrive at the chip at the same time to ensure the proper timing.

The adaptor would also be quite hard to install and expensive and you would require 8 of them.

The other problem that I have been told by psycho_Chewbacca is that we don't actually know if the additional address lines required to run more ram is actually routed to the MCPX and if it is addressable by the chipset, yes the pads are there but they may not be routed any where.

The bios will likely have to be modified possibly along with the SDK that will mean compatibility issues with existing software I guess also.

If there are lines running to the chipset possibly the best way to implement this would possibly to make a single adaptor with all the ram on it and sandwich it between the MCPX and motherboard, making the onboard ram redundant, the max you could achieve is 512mb I believe.

I'd like to be proven wrong but I'd be the first one to put my hands up to buy one if someone did it.

The chips in Tom37's post aren't BGA.. and are listed as 128mb, I was just assuming 128mb would be four of them... so if eight were to be added that would be 256mb.
