Ultra IDE Origami

Post by NeMesiS »

So last week my parcel with two 800mm ultra IDE cables finally arrived.
The first thing you should notice when trying to install a new cable,
is that the hard drives connector is inverted on the original cable.
To replicate this I devised a way to fold the new cable shown below...

Next I would fold up the mobo half of the cable...

Now connect the cable to the mobo and continue to install the DVDrom.
Having the cable laying over the top of the DVDrom, fold a 90 degree
bend towards the HD and try to align the cable with the clip on HD tray.
Make another 90 degree fold towards the front of the xbox console,
again trying to keep the cable aligned with the HD's IDE connector...

Finally fold the last bit of the cable underneath itself and connect to the HD...

So this was the neatest way I could come up with for now,
I thought it was worth sharing...

@ NeMesiS... Just letting you know the connectors on the IDE cables can be removed by taking the top clip off and pulling the lower part of the connector still attached to the IDE cable off the cable and reversing it. Once the cable is removed from the connector, turn the connector around, place your IDE cable back in lining up the cables with the slots on the connector, place the lid back on and now put it in a vice and wind the vice up tight. This will push the wires into place on the connector and then clip the lid of the connector back on. If you have no access to a vice you can just use a hammer with the connector on contrete, just don't smash the Christ out of it and it will all clip back together. You can also use this procedure for when you want to re-locate the connector on the IDE cable if after modding the machine your IDE connectors are in the wrong location.

LoL, I mentioned this on another thread but due to availability,
I had a choice between a cable that was either to small or to large.

I know I could have revered the connector but my thoughts are
the less I stuff around with things the less that could go wrong.
Plus I'm presenting an alternative method for people...
